    142 Wellington Place

The suspense in this engaging crime narrative is riveting and keeps building up until it reaches a most unexpected climax filled with excitement and pathos.

Fourteen years after the end of World War II, former RAF fighter pilot Ben Benison gets a frantic phone call from Celia, the wife of his best friend, Don. It seems Don has been unfaithful, and the proof stands in the hallway of the couple’s home: Ada Hamilton, a young, fragile, pregnant girl who clutches love letters written in Don’s hand. Unfortunately, Don is in London, and Celia wants Ben to fi nd out if her husband truly is a liar and a cheat.

Ben heads up to London to confront his old friend and then returns to Celia’s house to deliver the sad news that Don has admitted to the affair. But then things take a strange and sudden turn. Two police inspectors arrive minutes later and reveal that Don’s body has been found in his rooming house at 142 Wellington Place. Whether his death was by suicide or murder, they can’t–or, more accurately, won’t–say.

The authorities open up an inquest into Don’s death, and Ben accompanies the police back to London, where they interview witnesses and gather evidence. Tracking down Don’s mistress complicates things and there is a great twist when a second ‘Miss Hamilton’ turns up. Something is certainly rotten at 142 Wellington Place.

Now he faces the world and a jury who are not even aware of this part of his past. Will he get the justice he deserves, or will he see the hangman? Change of Verdict (A Diary of a Father’s Love) is an intriguing story that will test our concepts of justice.

Clouds Over Pemberley: Sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice

CLOUDS OVER PEMBERLEY, Temptation and Temperance, is a sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Reverend Mister Collins researches a new sermon which tests the marital fidelity of newlyweds Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam Darcy, Jane and Charles Bingley and others in the Bennet family. The sermon is at the urging of Darcy’s dowager aunt Lady Catherine de Bourgh who believes Elizabeth and the other Bennet’s are inferior in class to her and her nephew Darcy.

Collins’s research is conducted with the help of a tantalizing handsome young couple from Ireland that Collins assigns to entrap the Darcy’s, Bingley’s, and Bennet’s.  What George Wickham and his wife Lydia are up to is very modern. Also off-kilter are Elizabeth’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bennet. It’s an 1812 Regency serio-comic romantic romp spiced with some of today’s looser morality. Jane Austen might think it a bit naughty, but nice.

    The Black Phoenix Selah Chronicles

Who am I and why should you read my story? My name is Max Faraday. Nobody is going to believe me, but here I am putting it all down on paper. I am a man of two time periods. Forgive me, this sci-fi stuff is new to me.

A week or more ago, in July 2002, I came home for my 1982 high school class reunion. I was staying with my friend Jamie Scott and his family. On the way home from the reunion, we picked up his kids at the babysitter. Their little girl comes out and bounces a ball that tumbles out of her hands into the street.

Just as we arrived, a car speeds up and my instincts take over. I picked her up and get her out of the way, but I was then hit by the speeding car! Stunned, I wake up in September 1978! I am a thirty-eight-year-old man in a fourteen-old’s body! I can’t tell anyone, or they would lock me up, thinking I’m crazy! I know I would.

So here I am in the eighth grade all over again. When I went to bed in 1978, I woke up in a coma in 2002, wondering about the driver who ran me over.
