Who Was the Lady?
She was a small ship that had sailed
the biggest ocean in the world.
She was an innocent of twenty and
an actress.
She was a gifted dancer and artist
of the striptease.
She was a teenaged prostitute to keep
her family from poverty.
She was a mother and diplomat’s wife
in need of love. She was of the lowest caste and in love
with a man of the highest caste. She was a woman of dignity looking to
the education of others.
She was lying half naked in a gutter in Calcutta begging for money for her cremation.
She was a proud mother and still innocent. Most of all she was a lady.

Windswept
$3.99 – $9.99Price range: $3.99 through $9.99Loss, forever changes you, forever. A piece of you, missing. It’s a given. You struggle not to accept nor reject but just to acknowledge, to wrap your mind around the permanent void; to make sense of the senseless, learning to breathe in pain to see through the tears.
Losing two of her three children, S. G. McAfee knows the pain; the breaking heart, the emptiness of aching arms. Healing is on going. The scars are real, deep, permanent. As you seek shelter from an unfamiliar stormy sea of life may you find solace in Windswept.
Ms McAfee has been writing the rhyming word since age eleven, apparent in “My Puppy” which gives insight to the innocence of a young mind while “Turkey Strut”, written three years later, playfully reflects her interpretation of a not-sodumb bird at Thanksgiving.
Love abounds throughout this book of verse as in the poems Teas, Glisten, Meyou. The joys of Christmas can be found in just that Joy while A Silent Prayer conveys to the reader the power of bended knee. Mourning Glory, written five days after September 11th, 2001 tells of the attack on this great nation, under God.
Windswept cross sections emotions, thus pulling heart strings, producing smiles, evoking tears. Sailing along life’s tumultuous journey may Windswept bring you calm seas and gentle winds. Know you are not alone.

Boys of Babylon
$3.99 – $10.30Price range: $3.99 through $10.30There is a small tourist trap in the Northern Midwest. A trap may be exactly what it is. People go for the fudge, but is it good enough to risk their lives for? In Midwestern fashion, dark secrets are covered up and disguised as quaint diners, candy shops, and beautiful vacation homes. During the summer of 2004, like every year, tourists make their way into town. However, this year, six pubescent boys take advantage of several unsuspecting vacationers, sending them to a watery grave on a popular recreational river. This rite of passage turns on the town when tragedy strikes one of their own. The children’s parents are forced to come face to face with the sadistic games of their once “sweet angels.” But how does one handle a child without coming to terms with such a twisted reality in a place where no one wants to confront their demons?

Trapped
$3.99 – $12.99Price range: $3.99 through $12.99After speaking from my heart and providing my husband with my real feelings. I could see from the expressions on his face that his ego had just been shattered into pieces. He never had to suffer from knowing my love could vanish away at an instance due to his cheating behaviors. I never expressed feelings of entrapment in our marriage either. And I sure didn’t express my thoughts of us going nowhere. I would just sit back and let him do him. But to be honest, my marriage for years has reminded me daily of a demolition ball swinging into a building. And once the ball made contact, all the bricks of the structure came tumbling down not knowing where they would land. The only difference is, these bricks in my marriage landed right where they were supposed to. Leaving Derrick and I trapped in a pile of broken people and situations trying to squirm our way out. But unfortunately, because our structure was destructed by a ball, we can’t get rid of. We can’t do anything but accept a reality of staying trapped, right in the pile of rubbish we put ourselves in. Better yet, we may even have to push and maneuver ourselves around for the very people we said we loved but showed them different. It may even get so hectic, that our marriage may look to be going in the wrong direction. But could it actually allow us to live happily ever after? Who’s to say. Maybe or maybe not! So, we think!

They made a trip on riverboats to New Orleans so Latesha could buy some new dresses which had just arrived from Paris, France.
They boarded The Pride of St. Louis riverboat to return home to Boonville and while Latesha was busy straightening up their cabin, the ship’s captain asked Rocky to have a drink with him.

Rocky lay down on their bed as the riverboat was making its way up the Mississippi River and promptly fell asleep. A few minutes later Rocky awoke; Latesha hadn’t returned to their cabin so he went looking for her since they were to meet the captain for dinner.
He couldn’t find her and after talking with the captain, the riverboat was searched from top to bottom but she was nowhere on the ship! After accounting for all of the other passengers, they found three other passengers were missing.

Bleeding Kansas and the American Civil War
$29.99 – $58.99Price range: $29.99 through $58.99This book includes events that led up to the American Civil War. Kansas is where it all began. The book starts out with the U.S. Presidential Elections of 1852 and the passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854, which allowed settlers, not Congress, to determine by popular vote, if they wanted to be admitted into the United States as a Free State or a Slave State. Streams of emigrants began to settle from Midwestern States, Northern States, and Southern States to make land claims in the Kansas Territory. It became a battleground. Politics, violent murders, rivalry governments, and election fraud in Kansas Territory, all played an important role leading up to the American Civil War. Abolitionist John Brown, his militants, and his sons, played a role in the violent murders in the Kansas Territory. Details of John Brown’s raid into neighboring State of Missouri are also included, where he freed 11 slaves, murdered a slave owner, and stole several ox, wagons, supplies, and valuables. He was condemned by both Free-State and Pro-Slavery newspapers across the country, as well as the President of the United States and the Governor of Missouri, who both off ered a combined reward of $3,250 for the capture of John Brown. He was a wanted man on the run. John Brown’s unsuccessful raid on Harpers Ferry, Virginia, including Robert E. Lee and J.E.B. Stuart’s involvement, and John Brown’s subsequent hanging are noted in the book. All major battles during the Civil War in Kansas are mentioned in the book, with troops strength details, casualty details, and colored battlefi eld maps showing the positions of the troops, including Maj Gen Sterling Price’s retreat southwards with 500 supply trains, and Quantrill’s Lawrence Massacre, where over 200 men and boys in town were killed, and the town was pillaged and burned. Th is massacre became the bloodiest atrocity in the American Civil War. The book summarizes the places to stay and places to visit in Kansas by County, including battlefi elds, historical sites, museums, and cemeteries.

Premeltons in DNA

Using the technique of X-ray crystallography, he and his research colleague, Shri C. Jain, solved the structure of a crystalline complex containing actinomycin and deoxyguanosine in the early 1970’s, and this information led them to propose a model that is now widely accepted to understand the general features of how actinomycin binds to DNA.

The Great Abortion: A Holy Book for Isolated Souls
$3.99 – $9.99Price range: $3.99 through $9.99These assorted poems are philosophical works as much as they are art. The myriad of subjects contained in this collection cover freedom, depression, lust, solitude, paradise, risk, labor, spirituality, and transformation to name a few. As diverse as these topics are, they all coalesce into an insightful and provocative spirit of exploration and moral exhortation. I have titled this work of mine as The Great Abortion hoping that it will become exactly that to the majority of people who have turned away from poetry. I aim to stop a mindless tradition of emotional stimulation, which neither betters the writer or reader. There are countless poems that have become nothing but an endless stream of adjectives that create great mental pictures, but drown out the few words dedicated to the actual content. Each of my poems combine to create a great halting power, and an eventual abortion. These poems operate by lifting the veil of curiosity on philosophical verities without the rigors and stagnation of logic. These poems strike through carefree levity, sharp barbs, and creative allegories. Weather the reader finds themselves in agreement with these works or not, they will consider meaningful life subjects with a fresh new energy supplied by these poems. I promise the reader a new spirit of contemplation upon completing this book.

Preacher’s Kid
$3.99 – $14.99Price range: $3.99 through $14.99Being a member of a preacher’s family brings on a myriad of expectations. The preacher’s wife must always project an image of being in tune with godliness. That is a learned condition where she walks around with an angelic smile and speaks softly to the congregants and is always available with a sympathetic ear and assurances that she will bring up their concerns to the pastor.
The preacher’s progeny is expected by everyone to be an example that all people can point to as a kid that the congregants can hold up to their normal children to aspire to. This is not only the expectation of the congregants but also of the preacher. Their mother, who did not get the calling, is responsible to see that they live up to their expectations as the preacher is too busy counseling the congregants and their children.
It is expected of a preacher’s kid, that they attend and lead in children and youth groups and that they by example extend the Christian teachings of their father. Also, is expected that a preacher’s kid is not worldly. He or she does not really know what life is all about for those who must struggle in the real world to survive. He or she have never been subjected to the words that get a mule team moving on a cold morning or the vagrancies of a Jersey cow who will only quit kicking at the milk bucket when she is told loudly that she is about to receive a swift kick in the ass with proper invectives. They don’t really know what life is all about and therefore are really not viable functioning people like normal kids are.
Of course, there is the other expectation of the maverick preacher’s kid. He is the kid that gets in trouble just like any normal kid and because he or she does not participate in the ministries to the church is considered a bad seed and unfortunately hinder the ministry of the preacher to his congregants.
The following is the story of a real preacher’s kid and his family from the recollections of a preacher’s kid.

Destiny
$3.99 – $24.99Price range: $3.99 through $24.99Many children were born into poverty, and thus had no apparent reason to try to succeed. That was the case with Mahlon “Dick” Palmer. Dick was the youngest of four boys and was certainly not a welcome addition to the Palmer family. He was born in the midst of the greatest depression the country has ever experienced, thus another mouth to feed. There was one positive benefit though; this child did provide a cheap source of labor. As you will discover, Dick was expected to work 12 to 14 hours every day until he left home to join the Air Force when he was seventeen years old.
Dick’s very best childhood friend was his dog King, who is on the cover of this book. Without King, Dick’s childhood would have been very very difficult, for they were always together.
Life was about to change dramatically when Dick joined the Air Force when he was 17 years old. The title of the book, “Destiny,” is very appropriate since it was at that time when destiny played a major role in Dick’s life.

Tales Times Ten
$3.99 – $11.99Price range: $3.99 through $11.99TALES TIMES TEN begins with the struggles of an up and coming young professional magician. We find him playing ‘finders – keepers’ inside and outside his Disappearing Cabinets, as MISTER MAGIC here in Detroit. Next, in a TWINKLING OF AN EYE, we are a witness with the ravens and a lone cardinal to one of those old time negotiations for a better life. After the ink is dry on the contract, we then take a visit to a Library of the Future as a student requests THE DOCTOR CLARK FILES. She is working up a thesis on the taboo deviant sexual behavior of certain members of Academia in the Twentieth Century. Before the authorities arrive, we find ourselves invited inside the mind of a lady architect killing time doing a puzzle in HOLY CROSSWORD DOROTHY. Just before she steps forward onto the stage, we head back to the vacant offices of Infinitex Enterprises. Here, even farther into the future, we discover the many faces of TACTILE UNDERSTANDING.
Better than halfway through, we find ourselves taking notes and dodging bullets. That is, before we spot the torn flyer requesting our presence at the grand opening of the TECHTOWN BOOK CLUB. We barely close the book on this event, when we grow increasingly alert to a rising din out there in the streets. We are startled to realize it can only be from the nearby LAND OF A THOUSAND CRIES. Now back to the future we go, leaving the screams of the past to die in the vacuum while we conduct a further learned study about the state of SEX EDUCATION. After being thoroughly briefed, regarding our study materials and classroom requirements, we then find ourselves in the Math Clinic hiding Internet Porn from the tutors as we are SOLVING FOR ‘X’.
Finally, with all this said and done, it is time to return our ticket stub to the Parking Attendant, after affixing our SPIRITUAL SIGNATURE to these TALES TIMES TEN…

The Early Years: A Memoir
$3.99 – $10.99Price range: $3.99 through $10.99The author of this book, The Early Years, Rachel G. Carrington lays no claim to lofty jobs, higher education, nor grand accomplishments except for a love-filled, multifaceted, family-oriented, poverty-to-plenty life. In The Early Years, the first in a series, she shares her story.
As a young teenager, just entering high school in the small town of Denton, Kentucky, Carrington planned to attend college and become a teacher. With coursework geared toward college attendance, she was offered a lucrative scholarship that would help her to attain her goal. However, it took only a single event to send her down a different path. She met a returned World War II veteran who was attempting to pick up the pieces after finding his marriage in irreparable shambles and his children gone. As he struggled, Carrington was there, and they pulled together to clear the many hurdles before them.
In this memoir, she tells the story of their journey and how their love and dedication for each other kept moving them forward. Filled with the joys, disappointments, and struggles of a couple, The Early Years narrates how the love of the heavenly Father was the continuous thread that bound Carrington’s life together.

Thoughts of Family
$3.99 – $10.99Price range: $3.99 through $10.99As a young kid, I think I was part of the last generation to experience a viewing for a family member in the person’s home.
Death of a loved one is painful enough, but when you see them in the environment which held memories of laughter and games and apple pie; The comprehension of those times are now tainted with sorrow that haunted the minds of young kids that were not mature enough to experience such a sad event.
The events depicted in this story are reminiscent of time more than 60 years ago when some young children were required to pay their last respects to departed family members and friends. The sadness, the fear, the lack of comprehension inundated the very soul of a child, yet it was believed the very spirit of the departed would not be at peace until all family members acknowledge there love.
This is a story of the weakness of one child in a very desperate and unrelenting situation.
