Author Zera Amadi was born and grew up in Kenya. She went to Lugulu Girls High School. After Lugulu Zera joined the Kenya Government Secretarial College in Nairobi, she worked with the Office of the President. Zera trained as a Secretarial teacher and taught secretarial for many years.

Before proceeding to the United States of America, while in America Zera went to college where she graduated in business education but majored in Massage Therapy, she did not pursue a career in Massage Therapy because of Osteoarthritis. Zera opted to work with Special Populations. She is a mother of four children and a grandson. Zera is a Christian, she is a Salvation Army Soldier. She loves God.

The story presents Estella who was a very hard-working woman, who did not rely on her husband for provision. She was a very strong believer in Jesus Christ. Estella had a great love for her children and had to risk her life to find food, school fees, and clothes for her children. Estella did not cease to pray every day. 

Estella reached a point where the father of his children deserted them leaving them with nothing. The children cried but Estella, whose job had ended due to circumstances beyond her control. She tried hard to calm her children. Estella believed in God and promised her children that God was going to see them through.

Estella was lucky; she got an opportunity to go to the United States of America. It was not easy for a mother who had children to leave them behind. But God is our Shepherd we shall not want. God has taken care of Estella’s children. Estella clanged to the Old rugged cross.

When she left home she had no idea how she was going to survive. But she trusted in God who created her. Estella was hosted, she ate, and she was dressed. She managed to get a job which enabled her to send money to her children for school fees and food. God took care of the four kids. They paid school fees and were able to get their education. Through it all Estella never left God.

The central theme of the story revolves around the significance of faith in overcoming adversity. Estella’s character embodies strength and perseverance, often reflecting on her relationship with God as a source of comfort and direction. Throughout the narrative, her encounters with conflicts, both internal and external, serve as pivotal moments that contribute to her spiritual and emotional growth. ​The story ultimately showcases the transformative power of faith in navigating life’s complexities.
