“ Mrs. Chambers takes her son home and Dr. Smith and Dr. Sam talk. How can Mrs. Chambers call herself a Christian and hate you because you are Vietnamese? Dr. Sam answers Because she is ignorant and right now still full of hate. How it is an agnostic is such an expert on Christianity? Dr. Smith answers, “I just don’t know sometimes.” Jesus Christ, I like at times. But it is his so-called people that tick me off. Max and my son, Paul, and the boys coming together to help that boy. I love those boys, Sam, I really do. Dr. Sam smiles saying God is not looking for perfection he is looking for those who are willing.”

“The Black Phoenix” in the Selah Chronicles by Jeff Graham presents an engaging narrative that unfolds in a richly developed world.
The story revolves around fantastical elements and intricate themes that explore deep human emotions and moral dilemmas. It appears to follow a protagonist who embarks on a journey marked by challenges and personal growth, often reflecting themes of resilience and redemption. Throughout the narrative, supernatural elements, including mythical creatures and powerful forces, amplify the stakes faced by the characters, making their choices and struggles even more compelling.
First-time author Jeffrey Shurlow Graham lives in rural Michigan. His writing is inspired by George Orwell and Tom Clancy, and he grew up reading Marvel and DC Comics. “With time and history, we just don’t know all that is going on in it.”
“Who am I, and why should you read my story? My name is Max Faraday. Nobody is going to believe me, but here I am putting it all down on paper. I am a man of two time periods. Forgive me, this sci-fi stuff is new to me. A week or more ago, in July 2002, I came home for my 1982 high school class reunion. I was staying with my friend Jamie Scott and his family. On the way home from the reunion, we picked up his kids at the babysitter. Their little girl comes out and bounces a ball that tumbles out of her hands into the street. Just as we arrived, a car sped up, and my instincts took over. I picked her up and got her out of the way, but I was then hit by the speeding car! Stunned, I woke up in September 1978! I am a thirty-eight-year-old man in a fourteen-year-old’s body! I can’t tell anyone, or they would lock me up, thinking I’m crazy! I know I would. So here I am in the eighth grade all over again. When I went to bed in 1978, I woke up in a coma in 2002, wondering about the driver who ran me over.”
Central to the story are themes of identity, courage, and the quest for purpose. The protagonist may encounter various characters that help to shape their understanding of these themes through their own unique arcs. The interplay between light and darkness, as suggested by the title, indicates a deeper exploration of good versus evil within an engaging storyline. Moreover, the emotional depth of the characters emphasizes their relatable struggles, allowing readers to connect more profoundly with their journeys.
Overall, “The Black Phoenix (Selah Chronicles) offers an imaginative and thoughtful narrative that challenges readers to reflect on their own values and choices. Jeff Graham’s storytelling invites readers into a world where fantasy and reality intertwine, leaving them with a lingering sense of hope and possibility as they traverse the pages of this captivating saga.
