Dr. Rita Stupavsky Colasent
Dr. Rita was born on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, and grew up with DEAF parents who communicated with American Sign Language (ASL). Life was a lot different for her and her siblings. Rita and her family struggled to survive in an impoverished world and faced many difficulties. TIME was the enemy in their lives because they had to struggle, wondering how they would have enough food to get through the next day. Dr. Rita attended a Cleveland High School, where she found her life partner, Dennis. They married in May 1965 and raised two children, Pam and Chris. They have two grandchildren, Isak and Anthony.Dr. Rita’s journey towards higher education was a testament to her unwavering dedication. She juggled her dream with caring for her family while she worked as an interpreter for the DEAF community. Her commitment to her loved ones and her community was unshakeable, propelling her toward her ultimate goal of becoming a teacher for the DEAF and a champion for all children with disabilities. Her passion for serving her community was ignited, a flame burning brightly.Dr. Rita’s academic journey was a testament to her unyielding determination. Her thirst for knowledge led her from Cleveland State University to Akron University, where she earned her Associate Arts Degree. Undeterred, she continued her pursuit of education at Kent State University, earning her Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, and Doctorate degrees. Her academic prowess opened doors for her, allowing her to become a teacher for children with disabilities, a literacy specialist, and, eventually, a School Administrator. Her achievements stand as a testament to her unwavering commitment and dedication.She has published work in Education in Literacy for children with disabilities and in School Administration. She was inspired to write her first book about her sister’s life and the amazing stories her sister shared with her during the last few days of her life.Dr. Rita is ” Dedicated” to working with all children with Disabilities,” as well as with Parents and Families of Children with Disabilities, and she has an outreach in “School Administration.”Today, Dr. Rita resides in Broadview Heights, Ohio, with her husband, Dennis, close to her children and grandchildren.
