    Wrinkles

    $3.99

I think it was Maxim Gorky (lower depths) who once said that laughter not only opens the mouth to laugh but also opens the mind to thought.

In this book, there are many poems that give that food for thought, for consideration and debate, but I have added a humorous bent on much of the material, for as in my case at least, humour is a good, strong tool in dealing in many cases of diversity.

As for the rest of the book, well, it’s a mixture really with funny poems, well, just for a sake of a laugh.

    Afro-American Me

    Price range: $3.99 through $7.99

Afro-American Me is a literary collection of my poems and essays written while pursuing an associate degree in mental health/chemical dependency at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. I used to think writing papers about self-inventory and awareness was a way of inducing a severe headache. Boy, was I wrong! I learned so much more about myself than I could ever imagine. Attending college has been more than just a higher education; it’s been a journey of discovering my true purpose and creative talents.

All my college instructors brought out the best in me. One instructor told me, “Always write what you know about.” That advice grew with me, and it’s never failed me. My poetry teacher always challenged me to go deeper with my poems. That advice motivated me to rewrite and revise my poems until they become masterpieces. I will never forget the last thing my poetry teacher said to me: “When you write your book, I’d like to have a copy.” Every poem and essay I’ve written has a personal connection-something I know about, a personal experience, how I feel, or my opinion about something.

    Mlle Manhattan: Miss Manhattan (French)

    Price range: $3.99 through $9.99

    Creeping Shadows

    Price range: $3.99 through $30.99

The son of John and Viola Hastings, author Swede Hastings was born in 1941 in the small town of Roseburg, Oregon. In his early years, the family moved about the western part of the United States, following the fruit and work available. His family later returned to Roseburg and bought a small farm.

In 1958 Swede joined the US Navy. The next year there was a major explosion in the city of Roseburg, devastating the town. Swede, age 18, received emergency leave to help his family. While on leave, an accidental hunting tragedy resulted in his 15-year-old brother’s death. Due to the emotional trauma, he was suffering, Swede was institutionalized in California, where he had relived details of the accident. It was this tragedy which inspired him to write his first poem, Creeping Shadows.

Once released from the hospital, Swede found that keeping busy kept his mind off the accident. Throughout different highs and lows of his life, Swede would turn to words as an outlet. As with his first poem, the page seemed to hold the answers for dealing with things too emotional to confront any other way.

Swede feels that there is a time and place for each thought to be expressed, and we all have our unique individual ways to express our feelings. Since the experience of accepting the Lord, Swede believes that the best is yet to come.

Reflections III: The Magic Beyond the Pain: The Journey, My Impact, Their Impact

    Price range: $3.99 through $19.99

This book reflects life-each and every one of us in our journeys as all of us inevitably end in the same place. It is our journeys, individually and those we share time and space with, along with the many souls on four legs that define the happiness inside. It is also imperative that we find ways to help the world we live in-for those many starfish that ended on the beach, and for each of those starfish that we can throw back in the water,-well, one more life we have saved. Inevitably, it is the lives we save that actually save us-aren’t they? They fill our souls with energy with that special feeling that we mean something that we actually are all connected but to live life with purpose-well that is ultimately the most fulfilling of all important feelings. To each of you I hope you fill those moments in the simplest of ways-giving back, and pay forward to become the power and energy that will save us all.

    On the Way

    Price range: $3.99 through $27.99

When William (Dub) Brooks and George Sayre first met, they soon realized they shared a mutual love for Ireland’s northwest coast. One had a passion for writing verse. The other had a love of photography. They decided to spend a month together in Ireland viewing with their separate lenses and combining their views in this book. There were four driving mechanisms.
Most of us dream of taking a “time out” to go on a journey. Virgil and Dante come to mind.
The two authors have a yearning to see Ireland again but in a differing light. It would cover thirty-three days of grand effort and joyous exploration.
That prism being also enhanced by the frame of raw winter. Who knew a Nor’easter would blow through the island and captivate and intrigue the people in the grip of HY’s unique brand of cold? It certainly added flavor and character to the sojourn.
The basis of our journey was threefold.
One was to capture the powerful hues and chromas of Ireland. No other land hosts such verdancy.
The second was to trace the various and sundry foot paths of W. B. Yates, writer after the Irish manner, romantic and modernist, dramatist, poet, and passionate believer who proclaimed Ireland’s wondrous brand of seeing and expression.
Dromahair (Lough Gill), Drumcliff, and Sligo being our northwestern home base.
Lastly we wanted to follow and appreciate the establishments and creative works of St. Cohlumncille, artist and author of Celtic Christian communities and hand-drawn books from the sixth century CE.
We hope that our journey inspires your own freeing journey of the heart that allows each of us to realize and to expand our inner horizons and to liberate our souls’ deep desire to see.

Like a captain of your ship a sail,
Without a Beacon, you’ll surely fail
To find your way upon the seas of life,
And run aground in tears and strife.
That’s why the Beacon came to be,
To shine its light on you and me,
And help guide us safely to shore,
To be lost in life’s seas no more

    Reflections on Being Human

    Price range: $3.99 through $27.99

This special addition of Reflections on Being Human contains 150 exquisite poems, written by Dr. Nirander Safaya after his retirement from a brilliant scientific career. These poems portray the thrills and challenges of life and love in general and the saving grace of spiritual light and wisdom in particular.
The poems are divided into three thematic parts-Life, Love, and Light. The structured arrangement of poems followed in this book allows a coherently flowing exploration of human feelings, emotions, and aspirations, and of the human behavior; thus taking the readers through a panoramic journey of self-discovery. The verses are eloquent and evocative, with dazzling imagery that touch the senses and soul, delving into the pragmatic, romantic, and spiritual longings of human beings. These lucidly written verses reflect on, and expose, the secrets of achieving success in love, peace, and happiness.

Positively uplifting and illuminating, Safaya’s poetic work is reminiscent of classical poetry, for it is deeply thought provoking about human nature and condition. Foreword Clarian Review wrote, “Reflections on Being Human works toward truth and self-actualization with many poems hinting at ultimate perfect unity …surprising imagery to uncommon and timeless effect.” Kirkus review remarked, “This earnest collection tackles serious questions…[c]onsiders the subject of love both abstractly and concretely.” An editor at iUniverse, A. Spencer, wrote, “these poems have a rare intellectual and spiritual depth as well as lyricism.”

However, in the process of grieving, it is essential to express, in often raw terms, how excruciating it is. Jere Truer, being both a therapist and a widower, worked through his grief via poetry and honesty, with the hope that these poems will validate others’ reality, give permission to bear down into grief and emerge on the other side of it.

Poetry for the Soul: Plus Satire

    Price range: $11.99 through $18.99

    God’s spirit can fill our very soul;

We are restored, and love reigns whole.

God blesses freedom and allows you to choose,

But those who steal freedom are destined to lose.

Bad thoughts from the past can be banished at last. Then your heart is set free to be all you can be.

What you think is what you feel.

    Emotions are but mirrors real.

The Lord will protect better than ever we can,

For even in the worst of times, He can perfect His plan.

What sets this collection apart is McPhee’s versatility as a poet. Each poem is a testimony to her ability to seamlessly transition between introspective messages and razor-sharp wit….Yet beneath the humor lies a deep sense of compassion and understanding, reminding us that laughter can be a powerful tool for introspection and growth.
