    Water in the Belly

In this parody of all-knowing capitalism, Frank Holmes survived the stock market crash of 2008 by parody, forming a rock and roll band called the Cherry. He is Odysseus in his parody of Homer and Joyce. It’s PG-13. Parallel to this plot is the story of a spy, Butch Lautsky. It’s a spy novel parody defending the FBI.

Universal and evolutionary, the congress can be a lifeguard. Article I, section 10 of the US Constitutional Law is used to attempt to void state government regulations, not federal regulations.

    D. L. Snow graduated from the University of California and the University of Chicago.

Intertwined with the parody are thoughts about U.S. politics, religion, events, the constitution, the state of the world, congress, etc. Words such as “rebirth” and “zen” are mentioned quite a bit throughout the book. An excerpt from Water in the Belly that speaks to the mixture of story, thoughts, writing style, is: “Sherry’s religion is the Catholic Church. We need our mythodology to let us get a foothold on the world of Homer. The dead immortal God like Zeus. The Odyssey is the story of a man who spent 10 years at war and spent in years coming home, with references to The Iliad throughout the former classic by Homer. It’s all time, the tropes of history. For Public Policy.”

It is an intellectual maze to fully come to grasp with this extensive piece of literature. Perhaps there is more artistry and genius within than what appears on the surface. Water in the Belly will be of interest to Homer’s Odyssey enthusiasts, or perhaps it is just one person’s unique and untranslated thoughts about America and how a man in the 2008 recession era can be compared to Homer’s Odyssey. Regardless, D.L. Snow certainly deserves credit for his creativity and pursuit of such a difficult task as writing this unusual 500-page novel.

Colonies in Ruins: Transformed by the Pacific War

Colonies in Ruins is a collection of intriguing short-stories about foreign colonies of the Asia-Pacific region—British Malaya, French Indochina, the Dutch East Indies, and the US Philippine Islands. For a very long time, these colonies had generated fabulous wealth from mining and agriculture for their colonial masters, but colonial life came to an end on December 8, 1941 as they were each attacked by Japanese forces soon after the US Naval Base at Pearl Harbor was devastated.

Following three years of harsh Japanese occupation, the clear focus of local people was to gain independence from foreign powers that tried to reclaim their former colonies. Hard-won battles and negotiations finally led to the emergence of Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines as new republics in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s.

Read about the men and women who helped make it all happen.

Gospels One: The Four Gospels Interwoven into one Narrative

This work began as a series of lessons for a Bible study class. At that time, no thought was given to the possibility that a book would be the final result of the study. In researching material for the individual lessons, therefore, no records were made of the sources of the material being gathered. After completing the study, there was such a large amount of material that had been used for the study that the writer decided at the last moment to consolidate it into a book. Regretfully, because the decision to make a book of the project did not arise at the beginning of the study, there is no bibliography attached. However, there are many instances within the manuscript in which the authority for the information used is cited. I deeply regret that credit for all the information received from outside sources cannot be given to the proper person or authority.

I trust that the failure of the author to provide a list of source materials will not detract from the acceptance or the enjoyment of the information given, especially since the reader will not be able to use the same sources of information to check the truth or reliability of the information contained herein.

A Fish Called Bad Eyes : Finding Marsha’s Glasses

Our bespectacled fish reveals his curiosity and caution as he befriends both humans and ocean dwellers beneath the water’s surface. Ultimately, he brings together a community of Pacific Coast reef inhabitants to help save their home. For many of the fish swimming in the Pacific reefs, a boat on the water’s surface signals “terror in the sky.” But when a young girl named Marsha loses her glasses over the side of one of these “floating islands,” they serendipitously land on the face of a speedy little “Manini” fish known as “Bad Eyes.” In a gesture of friendship, Marsha leaves her new finned acquaintance this miraculous gift . From there, the detailed characters and action draw interest while his questioning dialogue weaves in an educational component that relays information about creature characteristics, habits, and the ocean’s decline in this a magical and creative foray into the ocean realm of a myopic fish. Even a big-eyed, noodle-legged octopus brings a teachable moment, commenting that “beauty comes from what I can do, not how I look.” Character interactions are brought full circle with Marsha’s return in the final chapter, and the story ends on a positive note, teasing more adventures with Bad Eyes and Marsha to come.

The Ordinance of Tithe and the New Testament Approach

The subject of tithe is becoming a big issue in the body of Christ, and it’s almost becoming a hard nut to crack. Unbelievers and a lot of believers have said and are saying so many negative things about it. It has become a subject of discourse all over. This got me thinking and meditating. As a man graced to be a teacher, this book is also a revelation to me too. It is not aimed at judging, rather it is aimed at enlightening the body of Christ. Please do not be in a hurry to conclude at any chapter, do all you can to prayerfully read through and meditate on it. I believe that all that we need to know about tithe and offering is not written here, however, I think it is an eye opener for further revelation on the subject matter. Thanks.

Hope and Destiny: Truman, Eisenhower, Fulbright, and US Foreign Policy in the Middle East, 1945-1958

Hope and Destiny is a work of historical non-fiction that fully elaborates on how the United States became involved as the lead nation in foreign policy dealing with the Middle East. It is a work that focuses on how two US Presidents, Harry S. Truman and Dwight David Eisenhower, established Middle East foreign policies that would pave the way for all US Presidents who followed after them. The Middle East, regarded as the most challenging region for every US President since 1945, is as ambiguous and filled with ongoing events that are as unpredictable today as they have been over the past eight decades. The reason that Arkansas Senator J. William Fulbright has an equal footing with both President Truman and President Eisenhower is the fact the he worked tirelessly for a policy that would focus strictly on Middle East issues, such as borders and Israeli-Palestinian issues. Better known for his stance against the Vietnam War, this book brings to light the enormous efforts that Senator Fulbright made for a more peaceful Middle East. Many of his ideas mirror those of President Lyndon Johnson, who established the “Five Major Principles” for a Middle East peace after the 1967 War and lead to Resolution 242 that stands as the standard for peace in the region in the twenty-first century. In addition to writing the Fulbright Resolution for the establishment of the United Nations and the Fulbright Act that established the flagship scholar program around the world, he also challenged US presidential power. The focus of this book is on the Truman Doctrine of 1947, the Eisenhower Doctrine of 1957 and the Fulbright Resolution of 1957. There are many actors presented in this book, US and foreign, that had a very significant place in shaping US foreign policy. Primary source research for Hope and Destiny includes those found in the Truman and Eisenhower Presidential Libraries and the Papers of Senator Fulbright at the University of Arkansas. Numerous Arabic and some Hebrew sources are spread throughout this work, as well as official sources from archives in the State of Israel. Numerous books were read as well as newspapers, journals and magazines.
