Price range: $3.99 through $16.99This is a compelling true story of a young boy born and raised in poverty in Oklahoma. He struggled in school, especially in reading and math. It was his mother who helped him learn reading and math, not his teachers. Fighting in order to protect himself resulted in several “paddling’s” and other disciplinary actions at school. Facing the possibility of being sent to a delinquent home for boys, he devised a plan where he would catch a train going north with King, a dog, who he promised would never be a stray dog again. He had even practiced jumping a boxcar while the train was moving! He would miss his family, but he was not going to the place for delinquent boys. In the fifth grade, with the help of his mother, he started turning things around. He accelerated to the top of his class in all subjects. Not only was he top of his class academically, but also, he burgeoned in sports. He played on the seventh- and eighth-grade basketball and baseball teams when he was only in the fifth grade. He loved reading about medicine, rockets, math, and the universe, among other subjects.
When he told his counselor and teachers that he wanted to become a doctor, he was encouraged to go into something else. Again, it was his mother that encouraged him to follow his dreams. With his poor education, it was doubtful his dreams would come to fruition. Still, he never gave up on his dreams. Through hard work and perseverance, his dreams come true.

This book contains the letters of my son wrote to me and my family while he was in prison.
He was out of state on a fishing trip when a friend broke into his house and set up a meth lab. When he returned home and started cooking his friend heard a loud bang on the door with a loud voice shouting. “This is the police, open the door!” He opened the door and they shouted, “Stand back! We need to search your house!”
The door to the back bedroom was locked. They cut the lock and found several fans running. All evidence was gone, but the smell was still there. My son was arrested and taken to jail. I saw his picture and the story on the evening news. I went to his house the next morning and police were everywhere. I ask, “What is going on?” He answered, “We found a meth lab in the bedroom.” I said, “Why was my son arrested. He didn’t do it, he was out of state for weeks, fishing!”
The police wanted my son to narc for them. If he didn’t, they wouldn’t take him to court. He narced for two years. Almost got killed and spent lots of money trying to make a drug bust. He did not make a bust.
We had to hire a lawyer and got on court. When the judge ask how do you plead. My son answered, “Your honor, I’m not going to plead guilty to something that I did not do, nor knew nothing about.” I am guilty of trying to help the guy after his family kicked him out. I let him spend a few night at my house while I was on my trip.
He was sentenced for 10 years for maintaining a drug house. He was sent to prison. He was put on work release. He was a master of electrion so started making good money. He has his own apartment at the prison. He said it wasn’t so bad, just missing family and friends and was the worst punishment. He saved enough money to buy a trucking company while working after he was released. He served 2 and a half years of the 10. When he got out, he said, “Thank you God! If I haven’t went to prison, I would never have saved enough money to buy my own business.
He wrote me every day for those 2 and a half years. I love him so! That’s why I’m sharing this story and his letters.

His parents sent him and his older siblings to church, never attending themselves, except that his Mom started attending in her late 60’s. He attended Chicago’s Ashland Christian Church in his younger years, taking a break from church during his teen years, attending sporadically until late in his nine-year military career where his older bother introduced him to Mr. Herbert Armstrong and the Worldwide Church of God. He remained a member of this church over 30 years, most of that during extreme legalism, and through the time it had a major doctrinal change to Christ-centered worship. He’s now been a member of Mesa First Church of the Nazarene for two years. Pastor Ira Brown and the congregation are very warm and loving. It’s Martin’s second home. His two favorite hymns are, “Oh, How I Love Jesus,” and “To God be the Glory” He presently lives in Mesa, Arizona, and his daily goal is to live according to God’s will and follow His path.

After graduating from Medical School, she did a residency in Pathology. As a result of some lucky circumstances, she was invited by Stanford University, CA, on a fellowship in Pathology. She fell in love with California and decided to stay there, she continued her residency at the Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. After she could afford to buy a nice house in Los Angeles, she brought her three children to America. She stayed in LA until her retirement at the age of 66 years and moved to Santa Fe, NM, where she became a painter with the help of the Community College in Santa Fe. She now lives in Albuquerque, NM, and works as a professional painter.
