Out of the Shadows: The Saga of Caroline York: Her Days Among the Cayugas

“Out of the Shadows” follows Caroline York in the 1760s. Newly-arrived from Ireland, she settles upon her uncle’s farm to administer it. When they were besieged by unsolicited intrusions, Caroline repels them, only to suffer the mysterious death of her uncle, after which she herself is kidnapped by a surly and arrogant British captain. Her daughter and husband conspire to find her. They enlist support from the one-remaining French garrison in the region and a friendly Iroquois chieftain. Caroline is finally rescued. In turn, she vows to literally clean up the New York frontier by seeking to change the status-quo between those with power and those held in subservience. Armed with a beguiling wit and charm, she becomes the mistress of deception and cunning as she prevails upon some of the major power brokers of the day. In due course, she brings about needed changes in the New York socio-political structure which helped transform the colony into the standard-bearer of 18th-century social justice, so carving out her own legacy.

    StarChild

It’s now the year of our Lord, 2915… Human civilization having attained near perfection… and Womankind’s very first starship, the S.E.A.S.S. StarChild, is about to disembark on its bachelor voyage to the stars…There it will encounter absolute Hell. A Hell that changed Human herstory for the very worst nearly 7,000 years before- threatening to do that very same thing YET AGAIN!!!

Yet even so StarChild is more than just science fiction, just as much an adventure romance novel set in the future, a strong element of mystery added. Mostly a love story in the truest sense, the main focus of StarChild is on people and the Human element versus mere gadgetry and futuristic jargon.

And with its powerful depiction of a better society StarChild could even be looked upon as a mistress blueprint for a much better society than that we know today, hope for a brighter future known as the “New Matriarchate” … the “Tammyite Matriarchate”.

Depicted in a more intelligent, realistic, sophisticated,  and  sensitive  manner than normally experienced in works of fiction involving matriarchal civilization it is a time in which “history” has been replaced by “herstory” delving as well into our past as well as the future.

Claiming all you need to do to know him is read his work. Jim was nevertheless born and raised Canadian, living in Hamilton, Ontario.  And  also  a  devout  Christian, he writes only that not in conflict with his own spiritual faith, including the more perfect world he writes about.

    Portersville

A flicker of lightning behind a thunderhead then a deep rumble marked the approach of a storm. Selena squeezed the hand of her handsome Greek husband. Together they peered across the vastness of the Gulf of Mexico while digging their toes into the cool sand. A weathered lighthouse offshore split the darkness, casting its light across the treacherous waters.

They braced themselves against the wind gusts and pelting rain. Between lightning strikes, they watched the squall line draw nearer. A dark tendril reached skyward attaching itself to the cloud above. The waterspout danced along the outer sandbars then crashed ashore ripping and tearing before dissipating among the pines and sand dunes.

Only twelve miles to the north, hotels glowed like jewels scattered along the shoreline. Bandstands blasted out music across the bay as vacationers danced under the stars and giant oaks. Children carrying torches and nets squealed and laughed while chasing crabs in the shallow grass beds. Lovers whispered as they walked along the banks of the bay. Old people sat in the glow of lantern light on their porches reminiscing of times gone by, legends of pirates, fast schooners, floating spirits, and the lost art of voodoo. Lightning on the southern horizon gave warning that the evening was about to change.

Cy and Selena fled Greece to avoid a personal storm and protect their families. They knew that this same storm could cross the ocean and track them to Portersville. Dripping wet and chilled, they vowed never to run again.

    A People Set Apart

When chance, the flamboyant scion of a well-to-do family, makes it to the United States from his war-torn Biafra, it doesn’t occur to him that life isn’t going to be the same as it is in his homeland.

But he learns fast. And by sheer will and personal grit, he is able to bulldoze his way in his new abode. Turning adversities into advantage he develops one of the most enduring relationships ever imagined. Turnkey, his nemesis turns friend, and over a short period of time, that metamorphosis yields an instant result. Chance schools him to change course and makes him to understand that he can buy himself out of the box seemingly reserved for him and his ilk that will place him in low level of society’s cadet in perpetuity. Having seen the light, they hit the ground running. Their friendship bossoms, and Chance becomes his greatest confidante.

When Chance offers to take him and a group of his American friends to his homeland of Biafra, a country remembered in flashpoints of war and pillage and destruction, and man’s inhumanity to man, Turnkey is there to defend his friend and dispel all erroneous notions of a people he hasn’t met except one man.

Biafra, plundered since time immemorial, and thought dead, has risen from the ashes of pillagery by dint, and indefatigable spirit of her irrepressible people to hoist her flag in the firmament for all to see. In Biafra, Africa is unbound.

Turnkey, a fortuitious child, and even luckier than a cat with more than nine lives, doesn’t leave anything to chance. Like his father, he toils from a young age knowing where he’s coming from but also with an eye to where he’s heading to. Yet, it’s him that the mighty God has had his path cleared before him.

And when fortune smiles on him owing to a huge bequeathal of his granduncle, it’s to Chance that he turns to, and it’s in his friend’s homeland that he chooses to invest his largesse because he wholeheartedly believes that they’re a people a set apart in spite of the challenges right and about them.
