The Diary of Lady X: Song of the Sea

A yearning for love and adventure evolves into a search for the meaning of life. Tony had a passion for travel. What started out as an innocent pursuit for adventure took many turns: through love, tragedy, and disillusionment; and awakened his sleeping soul, setting him on a path of aspiration. THE DIARY OF LADY X, a novel in two volumes, is filled with actual accounts. The story has appeal for a wide ranging reader-ship who will find its characters to be engaging, and its story to be intriguing.

    Who Was the Lady?

She was a small ship that had sailed
the biggest ocean in the world.
She was an innocent of twenty and
    an actress.
She was a gifted dancer and artist
    of the striptease.
She was a teenaged prostitute to keep
    her family from poverty.
She was a mother and diplomat’s wife
    in need of love.

She was of the lowest caste and in love
with a man of the highest caste.

She was a woman of dignity looking to
    the education of others.
She was lying half naked in a gutter in Calcutta begging for money for her cremation.
She was a proud mother and still innocent.

Most of all she was a lady.

    Chance of Snow

“Where’d we park?” Leora asks pulling a key from her jean’s pocket. “ The truck! Where’s the truck?”

“Over there!” Sydney yells pointing to Crow’s pickup. Hector emerges from the club sending the girls into hiding. Needing ample leg room for her long limbs, Sydney slides immediately to the roomy oor laying her head on the bench seat facing Leora who keels over sideways. “Maybe his boss’s head exploded!”

Hector scans the lot, steadfast, until three young girls smiling and giggling mistake him for a bouncer. It is all over. Chivalry holds the door then follows with a limp back inside.

Leora turns o the radio rolling her window down to hear any approaching vehicles that might appear out of the fog. Sirens wail in the distance. Sydney climbs on the seat. “Whew! Momma!” She rolls down her window as Leora putters through the slushy mess to the intersection just in time as four police cars burst through the fog fish tailing into the shopping center’s parking lot.

“Maybe his head did explode! AH-HA-HA!”

Vector: Which way does one turn in a world going the wrong way?

“Vector” was written to help believers to know how to explain their faith to non-believers. This was done by first sighting Biblical prophecy written hundreds of years before the event yet being fulfilled in intricate detail. Then by using proof from geology, biology, and the fossil record the theory of evolution is debunked.

    Windswept

Loss, forever changes you, forever. A piece of you, missing. It’s a given. You struggle not to accept nor reject but just to acknowledge, to wrap your mind around the permanent void; to make sense of the senseless, learning to breathe in pain to see through the tears.

Losing two of her three children, S. G. McAfee knows the pain; the breaking heart, the emptiness of aching arms. Healing is on going. The scars are real, deep, permanent. As you seek shelter from an unfamiliar stormy sea of life may you find solace in Windswept.

Ms McAfee has been writing the rhyming word since age eleven, apparent in “My Puppy” which gives insight to the innocence of a young mind while “Turkey Strut”, written three years later, playfully reflects her interpretation of a not-sodumb bird at Thanksgiving.

Love abounds throughout this book of verse as in the poems Teas, Glisten, Meyou. The joys of Christmas can be found in just that Joy while A Silent Prayer conveys to the reader the power of bended knee. Mourning Glory, written five days after September 11th, 2001 tells of the attack on this great nation, under God.

Windswept cross sections emotions, thus pulling heart strings, producing smiles, evoking tears. Sailing along life’s tumultuous journey may Windswept bring you calm seas and gentle winds. Know you are not alone.

Bleeding Kansas and the American Civil War

This book includes events that led up to the American Civil War. Kansas is where it all began. The book starts out with the U.S. Presidential Elections of 1852 and the passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854, which allowed settlers, not Congress, to determine by popular vote, if they wanted to be admitted into the United States as a Free State or a Slave State. Streams of emigrants began to settle from Midwestern States, Northern States, and Southern States to make land claims in the Kansas Territory. It became a battleground. Politics, violent murders, rivalry governments, and election fraud in Kansas Territory, all played an important role leading up to the American Civil War. Abolitionist John Brown, his militants, and his sons, played a role in the violent murders in the Kansas Territory. Details of John Brown’s raid into neighboring State of Missouri are also included, where he freed 11 slaves, murdered a slave owner, and stole several ox, wagons, supplies, and valuables. He was condemned by both Free-State and Pro-Slavery newspapers across the country, as well as the President of the United States and the Governor of Missouri, who both off ered a combined reward of $3,250 for the capture of John Brown. He was a wanted man on the run. John Brown’s unsuccessful raid on Harpers Ferry, Virginia, including Robert E. Lee and J.E.B. Stuart’s involvement, and John Brown’s subsequent hanging are noted in the book. All major battles during the Civil War in Kansas are mentioned in the book, with troops strength details, casualty details, and colored battlefi eld maps showing the positions of the troops, including Maj Gen Sterling Price’s retreat southwards with 500 supply trains, and Quantrill’s Lawrence Massacre, where over 200 men and boys in town were killed, and the town was pillaged and burned. Th is massacre became the bloodiest atrocity in the American Civil War. The book summarizes the places to stay and places to visit in Kansas by County, including battlefi elds, historical sites, museums, and cemeteries.

    Trapped

After speaking from my heart and providing my husband with my real feelings. I could see from the expressions on his face that his ego had just been shattered into pieces. He never had to suffer from knowing my love could vanish away at an instance due to his cheating behaviors. I never expressed feelings of entrapment in our marriage either. And I sure didn’t express my thoughts of us going nowhere. I would just sit back and let him do him. But to be honest, my marriage for years has reminded me daily of a demolition ball swinging into a building. And once the ball made contact, all the bricks of the structure came tumbling down not knowing where they would land. The only difference is, these bricks in my marriage landed right where they were supposed to. Leaving Derrick and I trapped in a pile of broken people and situations trying to squirm our way out. But unfortunately, because our structure was destructed by a ball, we can’t get rid of. We can’t do anything but accept a reality of staying trapped, right in the pile of rubbish we put ourselves in. Better yet, we may even have to push and maneuver ourselves around for the very people we said we loved but showed them different. It may even get so hectic, that our marriage may look to be going in the wrong direction. But could it actually allow us to live happily ever after? Who’s to say. Maybe or maybe not! So, we think!

Rocky and Latesha met in New York after being introduced by Rocky’s publisher’s wife, one of Latesha’s closest friends.

They were married and moved to Boonville, Missouri, where their home sits on a high bluff overlooking the Missouri River. Watching the traffic on the river below was one of their great joys in life.

They made a trip on riverboats to New Orleans so Latesha could buy some new dresses which had just arrived from Paris, France.

They boarded The Pride of St. Louis riverboat to return home to Boonville and while Latesha was busy straightening up their cabin, the ship’s captain asked Rocky to have a drink with him.

After having a drink and a lot of conversation with the captain, Rocky returned to their cabin and found the door unlocked and Latesha was gone. Rocky thought she must have needed something for their room and went to get it and would return shortly.

Rocky lay down on their bed as the riverboat was making its way up the Mississippi River and promptly fell asleep. A few minutes later Rocky awoke; Latesha hadn’t returned to their cabin so he went looking for her since they were to meet the captain for dinner.

He couldn’t find her and after talking with the captain, the riverboat was searched from top to bottom but she was nowhere on the ship! After accounting for all of the other passengers, they found three other passengers were missing.

No one could understand how four people got off the ship without anyone seeing them leave the ship before it sailed. Th ey were just gone. It made no sense.

Rocky shouted, “Where is my wife? Rocky’s quest in life now was to find his wife.
