Just Passing Through: A German-American Family Saga – Revised Edition

In this updated and revised edition of Just Passing Through: A German American Family Saga, first published in 2011, the author tells the story of several generations of his unique but dysfunctional family spanning over a hundred years including the two world wars. Peter Zell was eight years old when World War II ended and in a prologue entitled A German – American Childhood recounts his boyhood experiences that included the apocalyptic firebombing of his hometown of Stuttgart by the western Allies, the postwar occupation of Germany, and his family’s emigration to America. The book centers on the author’s mother, whom her children called Mutti, and her ordeal during the Nazi era for having been married to a Jew, the son of prosperous Frankfurt business owners, with whom she had two children. With anti-Semitism on the rise in Germany, her husband decided to emigrate to America but Mutti chose to remain behind to take care of her ailing father. The couple had an amicable divorce and while her ex-husband

took their son with him, their daughter remained with Mutti in Germany. Under the Nuremberg Laws of 1935, mother and daughter now found themselves classified as non-Aryans which meant that Mutti could not remarry while their teenage daughter, being half Jewish, was put in dire jeopardy of her life. At this point Mutti’s older brother, himself a dedicated National Socialist, proposed an unconventional solution that ensured her survival. Following his advice, Mutti had more children, fathered by so-called Aryans, who were eventually all brought to America. The book follows the lives of the five siblings, all half-brothers and half-sisters, and their difficult relationships with each other as each sought to achieve his or her version of the American Dream.

The Gift of Sobriety: A Spiritual Transformation

This book describes Rose’s gradual descent into alcoholism over a 45-year period. Starting out as a moderate drinker for many years, her descent into the depths of depression and despair of alcoholism was exacerbated by the death of a spouse of 20 years. Retired and alone she started abusing alcohol. This led to suicidal ideation and eventually to Out Patient treatment. However, it was only in the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous that she finally found the solution she needed. This book describes her first nine months in AA, what she experienced, thought, and felt. It takes the reader deeply into the spiritual transformation that this 12 Step program offers. This book is helpful to those who struggle with their drinking and want to quit. Those in recovery can relate to the chapters and it may be used as a book study in groups.

Great Gobs of Goose Grease: An Account of A Stroke Happening and the Trial and Struggles to Comeback

A book like this would have given our family some much needed hope during Connie’s most critical weeks in the hospital. It should be mandatory reading for stroke family members.

    – Bonnie Ferrin, twin sister

Watching my mother suffer through the pain and frustration of a stroke has been a horrible experience. However, her determination towards survival and recovery has taught me invaluable life lessons, and with each hurdle crossed, I have learned the powers of faith, hope, and believing in yourself. My mom is my hero.

    – Angela Bailey, daughter

    A stroke is two things:

    1. The easy part, the short life or death emergency where everyone exists on fear and adrenaline.

    2. The hard part, everything else! I wish I had an idea of what that was going to be like!

    – Amber Livsey, daughter

Will a devastating stroke change your life forever? Yes. Will if rule your life forever? At times if feels that way, but time heals all wounds, and in time you will find a way to rule your own life again. Jenny Hughes, daughter. This book gave great insight into the trials of a stroke victim. Had my family only known beforehand that this is how it felt, we could have provided a much better support system.

    – Summer Gordon, daughter

This is a book that shows how a person’s life can change in an instant.

This book shows how ordinary people who are confronted with overwhelming obstacles can triumph with a positive attitude and hard work, then become an inspiration to everyone around them.

    St. Thomas Church

This book tells the story of Pastor Steve Palmer and his church in the small Northwest, Michigan town of Hartlin. They face many of the same challenges that we all do to become the people God has called them and us to become. St. Thomas Chruch is both fiction and non-fiction. Because the people and many of the the places in this book are completely made-up but the message of these parables apply to all of us at one or another.

This Novel can best be called a pre-church growth book. It does not offer strategies to grow your church but is meant to be used as a mirror in personal devotions and as a small group study to ask where am I or we in relationship to where we ought to be. This book does not promote anything goes mentality but instead promotes being God’s hands, feet and mouth to the world outside our doors not just on Sunday but every second of every day, of every moment.

This book does this by telling several short stories and then asking questions that are meant to promote discussion and hopefully action (and if needed, change). Now go forth and change your world.

    Empire of Fairy Tales

Christmas is coming soon. I want to surprise the children with my

fairytales, that is my gift for the holidays.

I came to this country 35 years ago from a communist country Hungary,

with my son who always asked me for new fairy tales. Many years are

gone, and I enjoy my time writing books in my pension years.

I was always involved with people and I learned a lot from them as a tour

guide, as an attorney, a mental health advisor, and a poker dealer.

Many nice stories made my days better, and I hope I can provide the

same adventure for you with my fairytales.
