E.B Mason (Anne Bowen) now has a live author’s website. This website can give readers biographical information about the author as well as information about how and where to buy the author’s book.

Edmund B. Mason earned his B.F.A. degree at the University of Louisiana and his master’s degree from Central Michigan University.

He served in the United States Air Force as a Logistics and Engineering officer and worked for many years in Turkey, North Africa, and Italy. After his Air Force career, he worked for a defense contractor. Following his illness, he retired and tended to his rose garden and wrote from his home in Maryland. Mr. Mason passed away in 2011.

Ed is a retired United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel working for a defense contractor. He has been hired as a Senior Logistics Expert to work with the Afghanistan Ministry of Defense as an advisor and mentor to two senior Afghan officers.

Ed first appears telling an Army Combat Medic he can’t breathe. He is transferred to Camp Phoenix just outside of Kabul for further treatment. Over the next twelve hours, he is treated by a “tag team” of nurses and doctors. During this time he remembers the sights, smells, and sounds of Afghanistan and his journey there.

Mr. Mason uses vivid imagery and character portrayals to tell his story from his arrival in Dubai up to the beginning of his eight-week dream. Ed describes his day-to-day routine at Camp Eggers, his fellow officers, his family, and the dedicated medical teams he encountered on his journey. Ed’s story is a straightforward, powerful, yet humorous account of his experiences in Afghanistan and how his battle for survival changes his life forever.

The title “To Be a Rose” holds personal significance, stemming from Mason’s childhood admiration for the roses cultivated by his mother. In the arid landscapes of Kabul, the vibrant and diverse roses served as a poignant contrast, symbolizing resilience and beauty amidst adversity.

Edmund B. Mason’s life was tragically cut short in 2011. An obituary notes his tenure as an advisor to the Afghan Ministry of Defense and mentions his publication, “To Be a Rose,” which chronicles his experiences in Afghanistan and his remarkable recovery.

Anne Bowen, wife of E.B. Mason, author of “To Be a Rose,” was also featured in the Author Spotlight of ARPress. “To Be a Rose” is a memoir by Edmund B. Mason, detailing his transformative journey as an advisor in Afghanistan and his subsequent battle with a life-threatening illness.

For a more comprehensive insight into the memoir and E.B Mason’s life story, the interview with his wife, Anne Bowen, is worth exploring.
