Author Reputation Press is proud to publish “Appy, The Appaloosa Cowpony” by Jessie A. Craker. This captivating book is now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and the Author Reputation Press website.
This engaging narrative highlights the unique perspective of an Appaloosa horse throughout its life journey. Following the horse from birth to retirement, it offers profound insights into the concepts of freedom and safety for an animal in captivity.
Jessie A. Craker hails from Rochester, New York, where she grew up in a small village on Irondequoit Bay. After marrying, she traveled extensively with her husband during his military service, living in Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, and several other countries, including Mexico and Canada. Upon his return, the couple settled in Canandaigua, New York, where they welcomed their only son. Now married for 56 years to a retired minister, Jessie and her husband reside on a picturesque 123-acre farm in rural Canandaigua, alongside their beloved Shetland Sheepdog, Lexie.
Jessie and her husband have been actively involved in their community as assistant 4-H leaders with the Valley Rough Riders, dedicating much of their time to working with teens, including serving as house parents at the Gustavius Adolphus Children’s Home. Throughout her life, Jessie has harbored a passion for writing, which she fully embraced after retirement, encouraged by her parents. Appy, The Appaloosa Cowpony marks her sixth book and is her first dedicated to young readers. In her leisure time, Jessie enjoys a variety of activities, including crafts, sewing, fishing, hunting, camping, and simply relaxing on her front porch swing, watching the world go by.
Like Jessie’s hobbies, Appy enjoys playing on the lush green grass, which evokes thoughts of escape, much like the passage describes.
Appy’s life embodies the essence of freedom, sharply contrasting with the constraints of captivity imposed by the cowboys. Throughout the story, he makes three distinct attempts to escape, each reflecting his deep yearning for independence. However, by the end of his journey, he comes to accept the reality of his existence and willingly relinquishes his desire for freedom. In a poignant conclusion, Appy chooses to spend his remaining days under the loving care of his cherished human, Miss Mary, highlighting the profound bond they share.
Jessie Craker’s book, Appy, The Appaloosa Cowpony, presents an engaging narrative that offers the perspective of an animal in captivity striving for freedom while ultimately recognizing the value of safety. The story imparts valuable lessons about the true meaning of freedom, evoking empathy and a deeper appreciation for the bonds between humans and animals.
