    Blackout and Poetry

I was born in a Harlem Hospital raised in Hell’s Kitchen. I ran the streets of Harlem New York, and my public school was in Harlem, also in Hell’s Kitchen. Thanks to my sister for giving me the inspiration to write my story. I began writing poetry in 1995 and life was hard, looking back; God has blessed me, and I have seen a lot in my lifetime. I have tried to better my life and tried helping others on the way. I went to Manhattan Bible Institute of New York for about a year. I graduated 1987 as an Evangelist then I moved to Hudson, New York. I joined State Street A.M.E. Zion Church and under the leadership of my Pastor, for about 3 years of studying, I had to travel from Hudson to New York and to other churches for my class. I moved to Poughkeepsie, NY and I joined Smith Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion church, and I was ordain on 6-13-98 under the leadership of my pastor, I learned a lot. I have always dreamed of becoming a writer. This is the first book and poetry and I pray it won’t be my last. May God bless you and may it bring you hope.

    Bring Back Summertime

When Jeanne Starr Gater picks up the phone one morning, she receives the shock of her life. Her strong, robust, athletic husband, Dr. Julius Gater, is in the hospital! — comatose, suffering from a stroke, broken bones … Dr. “J” IS DYING!! A car accident that morning has left her husband unconscious, though still alive and hanging on for dear life! ..And it had been a good life — full of sunshine! Why this! .. Dear GOD! … Why this?! She knows she must get to him — and fast! They had come through too much together. If she gets to the hospital in time, they will come through this awful thing too But she needs all her resources now. In her inner spirit, she petitions her God for mercy and compassion and strength to bring Dr. ‘J” back from near death. Next, over time, she contacts her family and friends for their positive thoughts and prayers. She begins her long hard journey to “BRING BACK SUMMERTIME.” Thus begins the remarkable true story of one woman’s courage and faith in the face of the bitterest of odds, and one man’s miraculous recovery despite doctor’s dire predictions. Family, and friends, new and old gather round to offer support, faith, and love, as the Gaters’ begin their trek back to a normal life. They encounter incredible (and numerous) obstacles from resistant medical personnel and uncooperative rehabilitation staff to other family misfortunes. Their very survival as a family depends on their determination to hold fast to their hopes and faith. BRING BACK SUMMERTIME is a soul searching story of a family’s struggle for the restoration of physical strength, grace, and human dignity. A story that portrays the power and strength of human bonding, prayer and the belief in the power of God to sustain and revive. This family somehow does not allow itself to be thrown even by this devastating accident. They continue their noteworthy accomplishments, as they struggle to deal with the prolonged recovery of Dr. “J”. Their story is truly an inspiration to all.

Choices: Like waves going to distant shores, will we ever really understand the consequences of our choices?

We all make choices in our lives. Sometimes, the freedom to pick between many different options can feel more like bondage than freedom. Sometimes, our freedom of choice is a prison. Literally, yet, God can take any choice we make and turn it into His glory and victory.

Author Sylvia Ramos-Paneque’s CHOICES: A Bail Bondswoman’s Reflections is the harrowing, autobiographical account of the many life choices she made that led her to serve jail time in a Mexican prison for smuggling drugs in the early 1980s. Within this compelling memoir, Ramos-Paneque guides readers through her early days of growing up in “Rat City,” a.k.a. White Center, a suburb of Seattle, through adulthood, and her growing faith journey along the way. Readers learn about the tough choices made in the author’s life, from becoming a ninth-grade school drop-out to getting married at the age of sixteen and ultimately drifting into her role as a drug smuggler, running cocaine from South America.

This riveting story showcases how God was with the author through all of her choices, and, in His powerful economy, everything can be used. After years of making “wrong” decisions, God’s choice to provide the author with employment as a bail bondswoman for over the following twenty years turned her choices into God’s decision to help countless others in similar situations. With God’s help, our darkest and most painful experiences become His greatest assets in helping others.

    Critical Thinkers

Who has time for critical thinking? We have work to do! This statement is like starting on a long journey with an empty gas tank but deciding you don’t have time to stop and fuel up. For over thirty years, one of the highest-level concerns among world leaders has been the deficiency in quality thinking skills. Critical thinking has little to do with a person’s IQ, but everything to do with our mind-set.

Author G. Janice Miller links critical thinking and spirituality. If a complete stranger were to observe my actions and listen to my conversations for twenty-four hours with no other information available, what would they conclude concerning who or what I worship? Shallow thinking has taken many people down a path of idolatry without even realizing it.

Awake! Our enemy, Satan, takes advantage of shallow, fragmented thinking to promote his agenda. It is an enemy of Ephesians 4:13, “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.”

Our culture encourages us to form and vocalize opinions and judgments before we have an adequate foundation to understand the topic. We tend to train our minds to think in sound bites and 280-character tweets. Couple this with the human tendency to overestimate our ability, and it results in perpetuating fragmentation.

God is calling us to wake up and see what the enemy of our souls is doing. We must be sober and diligent. Paul admonishes us in Ephesians 6:10, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” We need a solid foundation that the enemy cannot penetrate

    Depression Where: Journey To Recovery

“I have written a journal to have a journey to recovery. I’m an advocate for healing in different ways for all ages. We are in an era where depression and suicide have reached an all time high. This journal is designed to help in the healing process to create a safe place for everyone to read and write down if unable to talk at that time. Until help is obtained, this is a gateway to help in the progression to healing. I dedicate this journal to everyone who has ever been told to suck it up and move on, to those who were told that their voice doesn’t matter, to those whose cries don’t get heard”

    Destiny

Many children were born into poverty, and thus had no apparent reason to try to succeed. That was the case with Mahlon “Dick” Palmer. Dick was the youngest of four boys and was certainly not a welcome addition to the Palmer family. He was born in the midst of the greatest depression the country has ever experienced, thus another mouth to feed. There was one positive benefit though; this child did provide a cheap source of labor. As you will discover, Dick was expected to work 12 to 14 hours every day until he left home to join the Air Force when he was seventeen years old.

Dick’s very best childhood friend was his dog King, who is on the cover of this book. Without King, Dick’s childhood would have been very very difficult, for they were always together.

Life was about to change dramatically when Dick joined the Air Force when he was 17 years old. The title of the book, “Destiny,” is very appropriate since it was at that time when destiny played a major role in Dick’s life.

    Diabetes and God’s Unending Grace

Why I Wrote Diabetes and God’s Unending Grace

Diabetes and God’s Unending Grace is the story of my fifty-four-year journey as an insulin-dependent, type-1 diabetic. I believe that God has directly led me to write this book as a source of encouragement and inspiration for other people afflicted with this incurable disease. My journey as a type-1 diabetic began on December 4, 1965. I was almost sixteen years old. Diabetes was much more difficult to manage at this time, and I described this in the early chapters of my book. My parents were informed by the doctor to tell me to never get pregnant and that I might live twenty-five more years.

At age sixty-nine, I have survived type-1 diabetes for over half a century. Through divine interventions and answered prayers, I have cheated death many times over. Through God’s wisdom and guidance, I have probably accomplished more in my life than an average person. I give my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, all the glory and praise. Deep down inside, I know God allowed this disease into my life because he had a special plan for me. Throughout life, God’s strength and grace have met my every need.

If you are a diabetic, either a type 1 or type 2, I believe that God has you on a special assignment. I believe he wants to manifest his grace and strength through you. I believe that God also desires to help you discover the special blessings you could not have had otherwise without your diabetes.

I trust that my personal story in Diabetes and God’s Unending Grace will deepen your faith and trust in the divine sovereignty of Almighty God. He is a wonderful heavenly Father, and you will read about his awesome and unending grace!

Diary of a Caregiver: The Dementia Journey

In 2009 my wife of over 59 years was diagnosed with Dementia with Alzheimer’s symptoms. My care giving responsibilities began before that time and

continued until her death in January 2018. She was provided care in her own home. As time went by the caregiver duties became more and more demanding. It was truly 24 hours each day and seven days each week. My Sweetheart was referred to the hospice program as a patient beginning in March 2013 with a life expectancy of six months or less. At the time of her passing, she had been a hospice patient for 4 years, 10 months and 5 days. The Diary of a Caregiver begins with her entry into the hospice program and continues until her death. Care giving can be very frustrating at times as one never knows what to expect or when to expect it. The Diary of a Caregiver identifies many of the problems and frustrations associated with care of a Dementia patient. It also identifies different techniques and solutions to some of those problems. It should be of interest to anyone who is involved in care giving especially those who are just beginning.

Don’t Give Yourself Away, But To God Only

This book is about making the mistake of giving yourself away to others, forgetting about your life and discovering that somebody “almost or got away with your life” leaving you empty, lost, possessing low self-esteem along with little marketable skills to obtain and maintain a life-style. The main points focus on men or women innocently becoming engulfed in a relationship, whereas, not putting God, first, but, in general, “man”. Another main point is discovering who they are in Christ, Jesus, and how God views your past actions and what HE expects of your future actions, forfeiting and forgiving all dilemmas of the past.
