Afro-American Me
Price range: $3.99 through $7.99Afro-American Me is a literary collection of my poems and essays written while pursuing an associate degree in mental health/chemical dependency at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. I used to think writing papers about self-inventory and awareness was a way of inducing a severe headache. Boy, was I wrong! I learned so much more about myself than I could ever imagine. Attending college has been more than just a higher education; it’s been a journey of discovering my true purpose and creative talents.
All my college instructors brought out the best in me. One instructor told me, “Always write what you know about.” That advice grew with me, and it’s never failed me. My poetry teacher always challenged me to go deeper with my poems. That advice motivated me to rewrite and revise my poems until they become masterpieces. I will never forget the last thing my poetry teacher said to me: “When you write your book, I’d like to have a copy.” Every poem and essay I’ve written has a personal connection-something I know about, a personal experience, how I feel, or my opinion about something.

Creeping Shadows
Price range: $3.99 through $30.99The son of John and Viola Hastings, author Swede Hastings was born in 1941 in the small town of Roseburg, Oregon. In his early years, the family moved about the western part of the United States, following the fruit and work available. His family later returned to Roseburg and bought a small farm.
In 1958 Swede joined the US Navy. The next year there was a major explosion in the city of Roseburg, devastating the town. Swede, age 18, received emergency leave to help his family. While on leave, an accidental hunting tragedy resulted in his 15-year-old brother’s death. Due to the emotional trauma, he was suffering, Swede was institutionalized in California, where he had relived details of the accident. It was this tragedy which inspired him to write his first poem, Creeping Shadows.
Once released from the hospital, Swede found that keeping busy kept his mind off the accident. Throughout different highs and lows of his life, Swede would turn to words as an outlet. As with his first poem, the page seemed to hold the answers for dealing with things too emotional to confront any other way.
Swede feels that there is a time and place for each thought to be expressed, and we all have our unique individual ways to express our feelings. Since the experience of accepting the Lord, Swede believes that the best is yet to come.

She received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and a master’s degree in public administration. He helped build projects like Worlds of Fun, the Kansas City International Airport, and Liberty Hospital. He has five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One of the things he is great at was writing down his thoughts as poems. He would teach his two sons to hunt and fish. Anyone who knows him knows family is very important to him in every way.

On the Way
Price range: $3.99 through $27.99When William (Dub) Brooks and George Sayre first met, they soon realized they shared a mutual love for Ireland’s northwest coast. One had a passion for writing verse. The other had a love of photography. They decided to spend a month together in Ireland viewing with their separate lenses and combining their views in this book. There were four driving mechanisms.
Most of us dream of taking a “time out” to go on a journey. Virgil and Dante come to mind.
The two authors have a yearning to see Ireland again but in a differing light. It would cover thirty-three days of grand effort and joyous exploration.
That prism being also enhanced by the frame of raw winter. Who knew a Nor’easter would blow through the island and captivate and intrigue the people in the grip of HY’s unique brand of cold? It certainly added flavor and character to the sojourn.

The second was to trace the various and sundry foot paths of W. B. Yates, writer after the Irish manner, romantic and modernist, dramatist, poet, and passionate believer who proclaimed Ireland’s wondrous brand of seeing and expression.

Lastly we wanted to follow and appreciate the establishments and creative works of St. Cohlumncille, artist and author of Celtic Christian communities and hand-drawn books from the sixth century CE.
