    Diabetes and God’s Unending Grace

Why I Wrote Diabetes and God’s Unending Grace

Diabetes and God’s Unending Grace is the story of my fifty-four-year journey as an insulin-dependent, type-1 diabetic. I believe that God has directly led me to write this book as a source of encouragement and inspiration for other people afflicted with this incurable disease. My journey as a type-1 diabetic began on December 4, 1965. I was almost sixteen years old. Diabetes was much more difficult to manage at this time, and I described this in the early chapters of my book. My parents were informed by the doctor to tell me to never get pregnant and that I might live twenty-five more years.

At age sixty-nine, I have survived type-1 diabetes for over half a century. Through divine interventions and answered prayers, I have cheated death many times over. Through God’s wisdom and guidance, I have probably accomplished more in my life than an average person. I give my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, all the glory and praise. Deep down inside, I know God allowed this disease into my life because he had a special plan for me. Throughout life, God’s strength and grace have met my every need.

If you are a diabetic, either a type 1 or type 2, I believe that God has you on a special assignment. I believe he wants to manifest his grace and strength through you. I believe that God also desires to help you discover the special blessings you could not have had otherwise without your diabetes.

I trust that my personal story in Diabetes and God’s Unending Grace will deepen your faith and trust in the divine sovereignty of Almighty God. He is a wonderful heavenly Father, and you will read about his awesome and unending grace!

    Confessions of A Gynecologist

Dr. Dresden leaves no stone unturned as he navigates through the exciting world of the development and practice of an obstetrician and gynecologist. From start to finish, his story is wrought with startling revelations and shocking exposes. His journey uncovers the needs, hopes, anticipations and expectations of men who choose to become physicians and, later on, obstetricians and gynecologists. He deals, without evasion, with the compromises that must be made in a physician’s personal life in order to first learn and then practice his chosen profession. He explores, in stark detail, the life experiences that motivate men to strive to serve women’s medical needs. He uncovers the self-serving and abusive nature of medical training and the resultant waste, inefficiency and danger. He confronts the flaws and dangers in the medical delivery system that threaten our expectation of quality medical care. He exposes the rot, self-interest and hypocrisy that pervade the political power structure of hospitals and medical societies. Lastly, he uncovers the power that drug companies can exert to control the pricing and delivery of pharmaceuticals and concomitantly keep physicians in line. The task is monumental and the author has met the challenge.

God Speaks to Me in Silence

Where does poetry come from? For Janet Safford Cline, her poetry comes from a lifetime of loving words and putting them together to express her faith in Jesus Christ. A lifelong Christian, in her inspiring poetry collection, God Speaks to Me in Silence, she imagines biblical scenes and stories in the poems “Shepherds, “Temptations” and “Why” She gently pokes fun at Sundays-only Christians in “Dear Bishop” Janet lived many years in the Texas Panhandle and recalls it lovingly in her poem “In the Panhandle” and she ponders her life in several poems about her family and friends. For the last forty years, she has lived on the Texas Gulf Coast, complete with hurricanes and uncertain weather, all of which is reflected in God Speaks to Me in Silence. God speaks to me in silence, never bombast or demand. The Lord of Lords is patient, always holding out his hand. I seldom take the time to sit and wait for his soft word, But I know God’s there and waits for me whatever has occurred. It’s only when I quiet down I hear God’s wondrous voice. God’s always there to talk to me, but I have to make the choice. God speaks to me in silence, when my mind is rapt and still, And it’s up to me to listen then to hear his perfect will.

Lady in Red Where is Your Head?

“Lady in Red, Where is Your Head?” by first-author Carolann deBellis, tells the story of a woman who survived a brain injury and a coma after a car accident on an icy New Jersey Turnpike in 1987, when she was 34.

Carolann had it all, the perfect life, before the accident-a great job at a hot Philadelphia salon, a passionate 12-year marriage and a wide circle of friends and family who marveled at her energy and infectious spirit.

Then, in the aftermath of the near-death accident, she lost it all-job, husband and sense of self. After learning to walk, talk and cut hair again, she faced the life-long task of going beyond recovery, beyond recreating the person she was before the accident to aspire for something better. Psychological counseling and the support of a loving circle of family and friends helped her to see that all was not perfect before the accident, helped her redefine a new Carolann, a work in progress who’s less self-absorbed and more self-aware, less controlling, and more open in her relationships with men in her life.

If it weren’t for the imperative, painful job of remaking herself physically, cognitively, and emotionally from a child-like state after the accident, Carolann might never have undertaken the intense personal journey that leads her today, at 59, to say “I thank God for my brain injury that cured me.”

More than a conventional memoir or self-help guide, “Lady in Red” stitches together Carolann’s own words, a diary that her cousin Michael Biello wrote during her coma and rehabilitation, hospital documents, notes from nurses and visitors and Carolann’s collection of inspirational quotes.

“I wrote and rewrote this book for over 20 years to help others who suffered or know someone who has suffered a brain injury,” Carolann says. Certainly, those directly or indirectly affected by a traumatic brain injury will benefit from reading her book, but so will anyone who believes it’s never too late to re-examine yourself and get to work making yourself a better person.

    Do You Believe In Miracles?

The main source of the stories in this book comes from the experiences relayed to me by our customers visiting the Catholic store which I and my co-partner opened the last years of our careers in teaching. (in preparation for a transition to retirement)

A majority of my shoppers were Catholic, but there were many of other faiths including Protestants, Buddhists, Jews, Muslim and those who described themselves as atheists or agnostics.

Readers of this book may be moved by the expressions of faith by residents of our community. Reared as a Catholic I have had questions of faith. However, I have been deeply moved by the religious fervor and faith of those who have related their experiences to me. It has truly made a difference in my life. My husband, also reared in a Catholic family, has been more skeptical of miracles of those about which we have written. We shared an encounter together in Eloy, Arizona with the “Lady in the Bell Tower” which has had a significant impact on his life, This miraculous event has been witnessed by several hundred people of different faiths and nationalities.

The narratives of miraculous encounters in this book may have an everlasting effect on those who read it and may serve as a segue of common values to a sometimes politically and religiously divided people.

Diary of a Caregiver: The Dementia Journey

In 2009 my wife of over 59 years was diagnosed with Dementia with Alzheimer’s symptoms. My care giving responsibilities began before that time and

continued until her death in January 2018. She was provided care in her own home. As time went by the caregiver duties became more and more demanding. It was truly 24 hours each day and seven days each week. My Sweetheart was referred to the hospice program as a patient beginning in March 2013 with a life expectancy of six months or less. At the time of her passing, she had been a hospice patient for 4 years, 10 months and 5 days. The Diary of a Caregiver begins with her entry into the hospice program and continues until her death. Care giving can be very frustrating at times as one never knows what to expect or when to expect it. The Diary of a Caregiver identifies many of the problems and frustrations associated with care of a Dementia patient. It also identifies different techniques and solutions to some of those problems. It should be of interest to anyone who is involved in care giving especially those who are just beginning.
