    Parchita

When I was young, my mom and dad did their best to provide for our family. Money was scarce. Neighbors and our church would sometimes give us clothing. I remember finding a pair of pants in one of the boxes which fit me perfectly. However, I grew taller and my pants unfortunately didn’t. My mom would either sew patches to cover up holes from overuse and she would also sew fabric to the bottom of each pant leg to make them longer. The word for patches in Spanish is parches. Parchita is what inspired me to write this book. I truly hope you enjoy my story.

Through the Lens of Childhood: A Little Girl and A Little Boy’s Story

The book illustrations (i.e., stick figures) was inspired by another book that a friend of mine eventually gave me. I liked the idea of handwritten words, which I think were somewhat inspired by writing in a toy giving personalization. This book is back to basics with no time or commercialism dated as such. A moral lesson, if any, would be that no matter how many representations to people we are, we are the person with a name that defines us.

    Carrie and the Little Rose

With my first children’s book, Little Children We Are, published, this is my second children’s book inspired by a valentine date with a college girlfriend after going back to my dorm room. Originally, the title was The Little Rose. I later rented from a young couple born to them a little girl named Carrie Rose who would call me Uncle Lenny. I decided to add a little girl’s name, Carrie, and the story then became a story of Carrie having her mother tell her the story of The Little Rose. Hence, the title Carrie and the Little Rose.

I sat on the manuscript for years, thinking that it may be just a writing for children until I saw artwork. After seeing artwork from the illustrator, Beth Clingan, who her and her now husband, Mark, were college best friends to me. I decided to commission her to illustrate as a book in colored pencil to which she proved it excellently.

Although this book is about a little girl and a rose, it is for girls and boys as the moral of the book is to be the best person you were purposed to be, even if everyone doesn’t seem to notice.

“Never That”: Belly Up….And Bully Down!

To The Parent/Teacher: Welcome to the Never That series for children. This series specifically focuses on character/value education traits. When these traits are introduced and nurtured at a young age, a child develops healthy critical thinking skills and social skills development. Character/value education promotes an awareness of what is good, wanting good and doing good. These traits are exemplified via experiences that children encounter in their everyday lives. It is an excellent source for spending quality family time together. This series can be used for guided reading, as a read aloud or self-selected reading. There are activities in the back of each book to enhance reading and language skills.

The character education traits in this story are self-discipline, respect, responsibility, good manners, positive attitude, obedience, and consideration. Do bullies respect others? Did Daniel deliberately shove Duane?

Remember: Words open a new world, a better world begins when our children can read with comprehension and enjoy reading.

    BETTY, IT’S SHOWTIME!!

    Who is Betty?

Betty Marie Stone is an enthusiastic overweight young singer with the desire to one day – see her name in lights. Although she was always complimented as a child because her voice was strong and adult like in church, No one ever said anything to her regarding her looks, smarts, or personality. For some reason, they only focused on her voice. The elder women would say, “Chile you got a gift from God just like your mother,” or they would say, “If you don’t do anything else, you ought to sing.” Raised by a strong, Southern Baptist Grandmother in the middle

of one of the largest Northern Cities was a struggle all in itself. The city lights called to her in a way much different than her counterparts because they had never experienced the darkness of the south. Betty remembered seeing miles and miles of darkness when she was a child. Although they moved to Michigan when she was twelve, she still remembered the dark roads and fields. For some reason, she always felt that the lights made her feel safe and looked after. She thought as long as there were lights, she would never feel the sadness of darkness, nor would she feel alone. Those long dark southern roads seem to escalate the long suffering she endured being alone and forced to care for her mother when she needed care and attention herself.

After years had passed and the city started to quiet down a bit, Betty really started to focus on her future. She was sure that singing would make her happy, but unsure if her desired path was even possible. The pains she endured while trying to pursue her dream as a NON-Gospel singer begins almost immediately. Southern gospel was the ONLY music permitted in Grandma’s house. Grandma seemed to only care about her church and her relationship with her Bible. After the death of her Mother; Betty thought she’d never sing again. Somehow, after those feelings died a bit, the fire and desire to perform still burned brightly in her soul.

Now that she is in her early twenties, she reflects on her feelings as a child, and it still saddens her to admit that she really did feel alone even in the lights. Betty now feels that God’s love is enough to help her through any rough patch. After all the ups and downs she endured, Betty finally found someone worth singing for, herself. NOW nothing can stop her, not even fear or loneliness.

Now it’s time to get the game face on. Betty, It’s Showtime.

    The Love Flower

The story begins in Ireland. There was a mighty, evil king named Giardino, who ruled everyone by cracking a whip. He lived in a castle surrounded by a moat. A fire breathing dragon operated the long drawbridge. The king’s pride and joy were his garden, which was visited by people from all over the country. One day another king came to visit and to admire the beautiful flowers. He told King Giardino that he did not have the most beautiful flowers. There was a lady who grew an enchanting flower in her garden which she called “The Love Flower”. King Giardino sent his knights to find this “Love Flower.” They brought it back and the king had it planted in his garden. He was so impressed with the flower’s amazing colors. However, the next morning, when he went to admire his “Love Flower”, he found all of its petals on the ground. The king viewed this as a curse and immediately went with his knights to find the lady who was growing these “Love Flowers”. They couldn’t even find her house, let alone the lady. When they returned to the castle, he found his dragon so sick he could not even breathe fire. He was so upset, he retired to his chamber. Later that night, an angel appeared to him and said, “Look at all your evil ways and realize all the suffering you have caused.” That visit from the angel changed King Giardino forever…

    Book of Hard Facts

I was sitting in a waiting room and looked for something to read. There were a couple of children’s books and that was it. I thumbed through them – same books sixty years ago.

I thought I needed to do a children’s book. – A parent could interact with. So, I came up with “Hard Facts.”

It’s compiled of things that mom and dad would tell you not to do, and like most children, it went in one ear and out the other. It was never retained in the brain. So, when your mom and dad weren’t around, you did it.

I talked to the ER nurses, and they gave me actual situations that happened over the years by children that did not listen.

I found an artist and we came up with “Diputs” and reacted out each possible rule ending in possible death.

I showed the book to teachers, police, doctors, and firefighters and got great reviews. Around 80% of “mothers” said it was too graphic for their children.

I went back to the drawing board and tamed it down. Now, about 50% of mothers said to tame it down more. So, it went back to the artist one more time and we decided that it was enough.

It’s not a perfect world and you can’t wrap your children in bubble wrap. Nobody can watch their children 24-7. Kids will be kids, but with “Hard Facts,” you can go page by page with your child and this time it won’t go in one ear and out the other.

I came to this country 35 years ago from a communist country Hungary,

I was always involved with people and I learned a lot from them as a tour

Many nice stories made my days better, and I hope I can provide the

same adventure for you with my fairytales.
