My Father My Cousin
$3.99 – $8.99Price range: $3.99 through $8.99I finally understand what my great grand uncle was warning me about, “Do not limit your Potentialities.” The family is simply the trampoline from which I would move forward to become the best that I could be. I think that I finally got it. Why should I limit myself to the limit of the visible? Why should I only consider what is close to me? How could I grow if I keep taking only what is near. I then realize that it is better to broaden one’s horizon than to be stuck in a particular place while the world is constantly changing and offering better alternatives.

Last of the Small Towns: Short Stories
$3.99 – $8.99Price range: $3.99 through $8.99Last of the Small Towns: Short Stories is a charming collection of tales that recount the boyhood years of author Stewart Hyson. From gatherings in the “Indian Graveyard” through unprecedented encounters with baby chicks, here is a sentimental recounting of a range of colourful juvenile adventures experienced by a boy during a time that was poignantly more innocent than today.
Hantsport, Nova Scotia, might have been a small place during the 1950s and early 1960s, but it was a veritable hive of activity in certain sectors and for certain segments of its lively population-especially through a kid’s eyes. In this memoir, Hyson invites readers to share his childish perspective of the postwar years on the streets of this little town. With a strong wash of nostalgia that characterizes his memory of his time there, Hyson shares his growing-up experiences of such preoccupations of the time as Sputnik and the widespread introduction of television.
Last of the Small Towns: Short Stories is a labour of love that delivers readers back into their own childhoods, so vividly painted are its scenes. It is this energy, this devotion to subject, that are the book’s greatest strength.

Alex: The Birth of His Revenge
$3.99 – $8.99Price range: $3.99 through $8.99There was a dead body found in a parking lot of a convenience store. It was said to be a gruesome sight to behold. It was so distorted that it wasn’t even recognizable. There was nothing on it that could link it to someone. No identification was left on it. No cell phone or wallet or anything of the sort. It only had some clothes on it that were so torn up and destroyed that they didn’t even look like any clothes anymore. They did not cover anything at all. The only thing covering the body was blood. The man’s own blood. That was oozing from all over his body. Because it was as if someone had tried to skin him alive. Or dead. There were no witnesses to tell what exactly happened.
His face was unrecognizable. His fingerprints were shaved away. There was nothing linking him to his identity. So it had taken a lot of time to even investigate who the victim was, let alone the murderer. An artificial face reconstruction had to be done to know who that was. But even when police had identified the victim, they still had no clue who the killer was. He had left no clue behind. At that moment in time, everyone just wished that he wouldn’t be looking for another victim.
