The Vineyard Book of Devotions: A Daily Devotional

For over forty years Dean Barley has directed The Vineyard Camp and Retreat Center, an international sports camp for children. This book offers a sampling of the evening vesper messages, morning watch devotions and blogs Dean has prepared over the past few years. Although he wears many hats as the Executive Director, his passion has always been to challenge young adults and youth to experience the unfathomable love of God and Christ’s call to discipleship. Over 25,000 youth from 40 countries have visited the camp. The campers are boys and girls, affluent or in need of financial

assistance, Protestant and Catholic, and from all cultures. It’s truly a microcosm of the true Kingdom of God. And yet they all come to this holy haven to experience something very special and unique each summer. This daily devotional offers some insight into what running a camp and raising four young men is all about, but Dean also has been able to open his heart to what he’s come to understand as a disciple of Jesus Christ through the trials, challenges and heartaches he’s experienced.

    The Madhouse Projects

The Madhouse Projects is mainly about automotive engineer Dick Thurman who is dismissed from a California University and begins work at an underground research and development installation in Arizona called the Madhouse due to all the activity there. He meets various people who work on projects there for an organization called BOSS which stands for Backers and Organizers for Sensible Solutions. He builds fly-wheel-power electric Indy cars which are raced at the 2037 Indianapolis 500.

Later she develops a micromachine system that allows people to experience good mind trips.

Dick also develops levitated flying cars that use a double-field motive system to levitate and field displacement to fly like UFO. Dick and Kate’s Christmas vacation to Europe and to Russia also needs a Madhouse which he helps organize with the help of the Russian President. It also deals with projects that are carried out in places around the world for the betterment of society and to improve the conditions of the world.

Dream Team: Saints and Gentle Souls From the World of Sports

Former Marquette University basketball coach Al McGuire retired from coaching in 1977, just months after leading Marquette to the NCAA championship. When announcing his departure, McGuire explained, “There’s more to life than coaching guys in short pants.” Baseball great Roberto Clemente was even more to the point: “Anytime you have an opportunity to make a difference in this world and you don’t, then you are wasting your time on Earth.”

With a voice that exudes his love of sportsmanship and his faith in God’s plan, attorney Frederick J. Day presents the fascinating and uplifting true stories of athletes, coaches, and sportswriters who, like McGuire and Clemente, recognized that life matters well beyond what takes place on a court or field. Showcasing the goodwill of dozens of sports heroes from the last century, Day proves that athletes can serve as powerful inspiration for positive contributions to society.

Dream Team pays tribute to athletic pillars who understood, as did tennis player Arthur Ashe, that “the purest joy in life comes with trying to help others.”

    Truly Pertinent Questions

Author of three anthologies, In My Heart…On My Mind, The Root of My Affection, and Truly Pertinent Questions, Wayne D. Russell is an educator, researcher, poet, songwriter, and producer. He is known as pragmatist, his brusque yet seductive approach to writing challenges the reader to confront the esoteric.

Russell describes his poetry as political, provocative, and unapologetically blunt, taking the mundane and making it sublime. His writing assuages the readers to see the elegance in simplicity and to encourages them to confront the unknown.

This author invites the reader on a random walk through their constructed realities and further challenges them to explore its nebulous boundaries. He forces them to grapple with their own imagining; it is this quasi-spiritual exploration that gives credence to his body of work.

Wayne D. Russell is a Mathematics lecturer and researcher at Medgar Evers College, The City University of New York. He has written and presented academic papers, nationally and internationally, bringing innovation to Mathematics learning.

Russell is also the Chief Executive Officer of EduSols LLC, a New York based small business research entity. He is the Executive Director and principal songwriter of LyricSurge Records, a small independent recording label operating out of New York and Ft. Lauderdale.
