Rocky and Latesha met in New York after being introduced by Rocky’s publisher’s wife, one of Latesha’s closest friends.

They were married and moved to Boonville, Missouri, where their home sits on a high bluff overlooking the Missouri River. Watching the traffic on the river below was one of their great joys in life.

They made a trip on riverboats to New Orleans so Latesha could buy some new dresses which had just arrived from Paris, France.

They boarded The Pride of St. Louis riverboat to return home to Boonville and while Latesha was busy straightening up their cabin, the ship’s captain asked Rocky to have a drink with him.

After having a drink and a lot of conversation with the captain, Rocky returned to their cabin and found the door unlocked and Latesha was gone. Rocky thought she must have needed something for their room and went to get it and would return shortly.

Rocky lay down on their bed as the riverboat was making its way up the Mississippi River and promptly fell asleep. A few minutes later Rocky awoke; Latesha hadn’t returned to their cabin so he went looking for her since they were to meet the captain for dinner.

He couldn’t find her and after talking with the captain, the riverboat was searched from top to bottom but she was nowhere on the ship! After accounting for all of the other passengers, they found three other passengers were missing.

No one could understand how four people got off the ship without anyone seeing them leave the ship before it sailed. Th ey were just gone. It made no sense.

Rocky shouted, “Where is my wife? Rocky’s quest in life now was to find his wife.

    Price range: $3.99 through $10.99

The author of this book, The Early Years, Rachel G. Carrington lays no claim to lofty jobs, higher education, nor grand accomplishments except for a love-filled, multifaceted, family-oriented, poverty-to-plenty life. In The Early Years, the first in a series, she shares her story.

As a young teenager, just entering high school in the small town of Denton, Kentucky, Carrington planned to attend college and become a teacher. With coursework geared toward college attendance, she was offered a lucrative scholarship that would help her to attain her goal. However, it took only a single event to send her down a different path. She met a returned World War II veteran who was attempting to pick up the pieces after finding his marriage in irreparable shambles and his children gone. As he struggled, Carrington was there, and they pulled together to clear the many hurdles before them.

In this memoir, she tells the story of their journey and how their love and dedication for each other kept moving them forward. Filled with the joys, disappointments, and struggles of a couple, The Early Years narrates how the love of the heavenly Father was the continuous thread that bound Carrington’s life together.

    Thoughts of Family

    Price range: $3.99 through $10.99

As a young kid, I think I was part of the last generation to experience a viewing for a family member in the person’s home.

Death of a loved one is painful enough, but when you see them in the environment which held memories of laughter and games and apple pie; The comprehension of those times are now tainted with sorrow that haunted the minds of young kids that were not mature enough to experience such a sad event.

The events depicted in this story are reminiscent of time more than 60 years ago when some young children were required to pay their last respects to departed family members and friends. The sadness, the fear, the lack of comprehension inundated the very soul of a child, yet it was believed the very spirit of the departed would not be at peace until all family members acknowledge there love.

This is a story of the weakness of one child in a very desperate and unrelenting situation.

    The War We Almost Lost

    Price range: $3.99 through $10.99

In the War We Almost Lost the author explains how badly we were prepared for war in 1941. He discusses the areas in which we could have done much

better and how the responsibility could have been shared by many politicians and military leaders.

The author writes about mistakes and blunders as well as brilliant moves made during the war by both sides that allowed us to win, but almost cost us victory. Better planning and execution by the Axis countries could have had disastrous effects on the Allies. But in the end, through some good design, lucky breaks and bad-decision making by our enemies, we rallied and came through the terrible war with flying colors led by the “Greatest Generation” of all times.
