Speedbumps in the Middle of the Sea

    Price range: $3.99 through $19.99

The author was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. He was very mischievous, so he was sent to a boarding school in England. Since he did not participate in sports, he did all his homework (Prep, as they called it) during sports hour. As a result, he would wash dishes after evening meals, and all three Sunday meals, to earn extra money. With the extra money, he would buy candy, and records (45 RPM in those days). He would then make a recording of these songs on a cassette tape and send the tape back home to his sister. Since, in those days, Kenya was not yet up-to-date on modern technology, the songs on the charts were not quite caught up. So my sister would get songs that they had not heard on the radio yet!

From his high school, he went to University in USA (Atlanta) to study Business Administration. He could not get his rights to stay in USA, so he had to return back to Kenya. Meanwhile his parents had emigrated to England, so the author spent time with his grandparents, uncles and aunts. After a long stay in Kenya, (20 years), his sister sponsored him to come to Canada.

This book, Speedbumps in the Middle of the Sea, is all about his adventures from High school to present day. With a title like this, it promises to be hilarious. Enjoy!

    St. Thomas Church

    Price range: $3.99 through $17.99

This book tells the story of Pastor Steve Palmer and his church in the small Northwest, Michigan town of Hartlin. They face many of the same challenges that we all do to become the people God has called them and us to become. St. Thomas Chruch is both fiction and non-fiction. Because the people and many of the the places in this book are completely made-up but the message of these parables apply to all of us at one or another.

This Novel can best be called a pre-church growth book. It does not offer strategies to grow your church but is meant to be used as a mirror in personal devotions and as a small group study to ask where am I or we in relationship to where we ought to be. This book does not promote anything goes mentality but instead promotes being God’s hands, feet and mouth to the world outside our doors not just on Sunday but every second of every day, of every moment.

This book does this by telling several short stories and then asking questions that are meant to promote discussion and hopefully action (and if needed, change). Now go forth and change your world.

    StarChild

    Price range: $3.99 through $30.99

It’s now the year of our Lord, 2915… Human civilization having attained near perfection… and Womankind’s very first starship, the S.E.A.S.S. StarChild, is about to disembark on its bachelor voyage to the stars…There it will encounter absolute Hell. A Hell that changed Human herstory for the very worst nearly 7,000 years before- threatening to do that very same thing YET AGAIN!!!

Yet even so StarChild is more than just science fiction, just as much an adventure romance novel set in the future, a strong element of mystery added. Mostly a love story in the truest sense, the main focus of StarChild is on people and the Human element versus mere gadgetry and futuristic jargon.

And with its powerful depiction of a better society StarChild could even be looked upon as a mistress blueprint for a much better society than that we know today, hope for a brighter future known as the “New Matriarchate” … the “Tammyite Matriarchate”.

Depicted in a more intelligent, realistic, sophisticated,  and  sensitive  manner than normally experienced in works of fiction involving matriarchal civilization it is a time in which “history” has been replaced by “herstory” delving as well into our past as well as the future.

Claiming all you need to do to know him is read his work. Jim was nevertheless born and raised Canadian, living in Hamilton, Ontario.  And  also  a  devout  Christian, he writes only that not in conflict with his own spiritual faith, including the more perfect world he writes about.

Growing up in a prairie farm family, with a very close-knit church community, Paull Vollmin is raised to believe that a Christian should be different. But somehow, even though the Bible tells him that he has changed when he’s accepted by Jesus as his savior, he doesn’t feel changed. And as Paul enters a rebellious stage, he starts to indulge his own personal failures, losing touch with his faith and living a lie after lie. One day, as a young husband and father, he just can’t sustain it any longer and finds himself hospitalized for severe depression and considering suicide as a viable way out. Still Standing is Paul’s personal story of coming to terms with the past and present in light of a faith in Jesus Christ. Be forewarned, his journey is no idealized picture of what a Christian should look like, but a discovery of how a real life, warts and all, can be transformed by a real God. In frank and frequently very funny fashion, Still Standing provides full disclosure in its chronicle of God reaching into the darkest corners of a man’s being, to bring light and healing to a life of faith gone wrong.

    Storm Frost

    Price range: $3.99 through $10.99

There exists an Anglo-Saxon manuscript, where we hear of an outcast wife, a husband, his messenger, a lover and a baby. Merge these tales with what we know of the royal family buried at Sutton Hoo in East Anglia, including Raedwald and his brother, Eni, living at the end of the 6th century AD.They believe in the old gods, like Woden, and have not yet encountered Christianity. Their culture is vibrant, exciting, terrifying in its cruelty, and uninhibited in its morality. Travel from the East Anglian fenlands, over northern moors to the remote Northumbrian river where the story reaches its climax. Along the way, discover life in a royal hall or a hovel; cure wounds or inflict them; share a feast or scrape a meal; work fertility charms or protect your folk from evil. Here is a tale of love and betrayal, courage and fear. Niartha, the fictional heroine, outcast from her people, encounters hardship, abuse and loss as she seeks her exiled lover; her survival depends on her practical skills, unexpected in a king’s daughter. In their desires and social lives, Anglo-Saxons, although separated from us by fourteen hundred years, are not so very alien, after all.
