TRASHED or TREASURED?: A Short, Practical Theology of Aging

“Fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14-16) in God’s image (Genesis 1:29-27) – mankind, at any age, is respected and valued by his Creator. How we treat the older adult is a reflection of our spiritual life (Leviticus 19:32). Men and women in their old age should not be rejected but rather reconnected and cared for by the family and the church. Assistance should be provided to help the older adult find purpose and a way to serve God until the last breath. From the first breath all in the human race begin a journey that hopefully ends with an abundant entrance into eternal life: crossing a bridge from life’s experience to life eternal, having lived a life of eternal significance and purpose… leaving a legacy for the coming generations. (See Philippians 3:12-14, 2 Peter 1:5-15 and Psalm 71:18.)”

“As the church prepares to minister to the wave of aging Boomers who will challenge the resources and programs of the church, it seems obvious that we need to develop a clear, consistent, and practical theology of aging. As one of the deans at Bethel Seminary I realize how important this is for training our emerging leaders. I believe that Chaplain Glenn Havumaki has penned an essential tool to train and prepare the next generation of pastoral leaders. This is a good resource for anyone who leads a church or is training to do so.” Dr. Douglas W. Fombelle, Dean Emeritus Bethel Seminary.

    Like a Tree Planted

Most Christians have had periods when they felt alienated from God. Circumstances and life situations propelled them into seeming darkness and despair. In such times Satan takes advantage of the Christian’s confusion and ignorance to launch a subtle attack. This book describes such a period in the author’s life, but focuses on God’s deliverance from the darkness via a powerful revelation – the revelation of the tree.

Jannah Mitchell was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Early education was in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jannah graduated with a B.A. in Journalism and Criminal Justice from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. She later completed her MEd at the University of Illinois at Chicago and an MPA at Roosevelt University in Chicago. Jannah reconnected with her childhood religious roots at Living Word Christian Center in Forest Park, Illinois in 2000. She graduated from the Living Word School of Ministry in June 2002. Jannah has served with missions’ teams in Bogata and Cali, Colombia, S.A.; Hyderabad, India; Panama; and Haiti. Jannah has a heart for new Christians and any Christian who is struggling. She hopes that her works will speak to the commonality of obstacles confronted when Christians are moving from darkness into the Kingdom of God. Hopefully this book and her other works will point the way to victory through spiritual development and renewal of the mind.

    Have You Seen My Daddy?

Who is your daddy? If Pastor John R. Peyton was asked this question when he was a boy, he might be ashamed to admit who his daddy was, having grown up in an abusive household with an alcoholic, womanizing father.

However, now as a faithful servant of God and pastor of a loving church, he can now say his true daddy is that of his heavenly Father God.

His new book, Have You Seen My Daddy?, is Pastor John’s detailed life story, beginning with his birth and childhood in Virginia to a strong Christian mother and an abusive, lost father. As he grew up, he witnessed hypocrisy in his home church and racism from other churches, wondering if this Jesus that was spoken of was really someone to be praised and worshipped.

He was soon drafted into the army and traveled to Central America and, all while struggling with his hatred toward white people that intensified through his involvement with the Black Panther Party. It wasn’t until the most unlikely of people witnessed to him of God’s love and Jesus’s sacrifice that Pastor John’s life turned around and because of this he was sent to Vietnam.

As Pastor John moved forward with his life, becoming a husband and father to three daughters, he began to feel God leading him down certain paths where his testimony of God taking away the hate and bringing him peace was impacting people’s lives.

Pastor John, as an agent of reconciliation for God, has been the vessel to change the lives of many, from lost lives in prison ministry to the well-to-do and various races and statuses. The hope is that readers will understand through his life story the need for God in our lives and that change for the better can only happen through Jesus.

Have you seen your Daddy? Because He’s looking for you!

    Being with Becky

No one said a word as we struggled to walk in the blustery cold to the spot where we would gather one more time to be with her. We all stared ahead to the area resting under the large crucifix, where we would say goodbye to her for the last time. I looked at the small, square hole in the frozen ground and started trembling. This would be her final resting place. Choking back tears and gasping to catch my breath, I wondered how a young woman so full of life and goodness could be ripped away from us in such a cruel and horrific manner. How could this have happened? How would we survive? No answers came to me. The only truth was that Becky was dead, and our lives would be forever changed. BEING WITH BECKY is based on the true life-sharing experiences of two sisters from Northwest Ohio. The author weaves tales of their times together from early family gatherings to ski trips with friends, revealing the close bond they treasured deeply. When Becky is tragically killed, the author must wrestle with the emotional chaos that sets in and cripples her spirit. In a world that no longer makes any sense, she desperately tries to pick up the pieces of her life and vows to honor the sister who once called her, my hero.

In Endless Wrath: Unraveling the Congo Genocide Inside Africa’s Longest War

“IN ENDLESS WRATH” opens with a gripping scene in Raleigh, North Carolina where, in the summer of 2013, a former political refugee lady from war-torn Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo confronted a former warlord who, in the not so distant past and in the same area, had murdered her husband and fifteen members of her family. This chilling encounter sets the stage for a riveting tale of justice and redemption.

As the narrative unfolds, readers are thrust into the heart of a trial where the warlord faces judgment for his heinous crimes. Amidst the courtroom drama, the story delves deep into the complexities of the Congo’s turbulent history, shining a light on the rampant genocide that has plagued the nation for decades.

Against the backdrop of the trial, “IN ENDLESS WRATH” exposes the insidious exploitation of Congo’s vast mineral wealth by various international stakeholders, unraveling the intricate web of greed and corruption that fuels the conflict.

From the blood-stained mines to the corridors of power, the book lays bare the stark realities faced by the Congolese people as they struggle to reclaim their sovereignty amidst a backdrop of endless violence and exploitation.

Through vivid storytelling and meticulous research, “IN ENDLESS WRATH” offers a searing indictment of humanity’s darkest impulses and a stirring testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of unimaginable suffering.

As the trial unfolds, the book challenges readers to confront uncomfortable truths about the global forces that perpetuate injustice and to join in the urgent call for accountability and change in one of Africa’s most troubled regions.

    Back to Somalia

WHAT DO NORTH KOREAN NUKES, SOMALI PIRATES, HELICOPTERS, JET AIRPLANES, SUBMARINES, AIRCRAFT CARRIERS, AND SAVANNAH HAVE IN COMMON? ANSWER: CAJUN

Ethan Breaux, call sign Cajun, has been flying charters out of Bristol, England for two years. His life as a civilian pilot has been going very well after many years of flying Special Ops missions in Army helicopters. Cajun is sought out by the CIA to coordinate then execute a super clandestine military style operation into Mogadishu, Somalia to retrieve a North Korean nuclear weapon hijacked by Pirates at the behest of Hezbollah Islamic terrorist.

He reluctantly agrees to take on the dangerous mission only after learning that Savannah, the love of his life, is being held on the outskirts of Ethiopia. She is a nurse and has been taken along with an Ethiopian nurse by Somali Islamic soldiers to treat their wounded.

Cajun brings together all his Special Operations buddies from the old days. The U.S. Government provides everything needed in the way of military helicopters because the U.S. cannot set foot back in Somalia after the failed Battle of Mogadishu of 1993. The story moves from England to Oman, then into the Cradle of Mankind in the depths of darkest Africa.

The realism in the execution of multiple military skirmishes involving air to ground firefights could only be written by someone who has pulled the trigger.

The ‘i’ Problem Theory: Solve your problems

The I Problem Theory starts from a simple claim: if you can precisely describe how you stand in relation to a problem, you can deliberately change that relationship. The book expresses this with a single equation, The I Problem Theory. Rather than offering vague motivation, the book shows how to increase certain factors by using better habits, better information, and better use of other people’s expertise-while recognizing things that cannot be changed but used to your advantage.

“Having been a close observer of the tumultuous events that have transpired and the change of course that has taken place during the past few years in the local churches under the leadership of Witness Lee, and having been myself an intimate co-worker of Witness Lee’s and an elder in the local churches for more than twenty-five years, I feel it is appropriate and indeed obligatory for me to relate an account of my own observations, inward exercises, and responses. I do this for the sake of an historical record and for the benefit of any who may be profited thereby.”

Struggling To Be Me: No Longer Silent & Invisible At The Table

As a black woman in the United States of America with a career in STEM and Ministry, my life began with two strikes from birth. People made choices for and about me based on how they saw me through their presupposition. No matter how much I changed my appearance, worked on my vernacular, educated myself and assimilated into a patriarchal world, it was still a struggle to be seen, heard, respected and trusted.
Today, women in leadership like myself continue to experience gender discrimination by men and women, especially as black, brown and indigenous women advance their careers in academia, institutions, politics and corporations. It’s the verbal and non-verbal communication that tells women this isn’t your place.
