Diary of a Caregiver: The Dementia Journey

    Price range: $3.99 through $12.99

In 2009 my wife of over 59 years was diagnosed with Dementia with Alzheimer’s symptoms. My care giving responsibilities began before that time and

continued until her death in January 2018. She was provided care in her own home. As time went by the caregiver duties became more and more demanding. It was truly 24 hours each day and seven days each week. My Sweetheart was referred to the hospice program as a patient beginning in March 2013 with a life expectancy of six months or less. At the time of her passing, she had been a hospice patient for 4 years, 10 months and 5 days. The Diary of a Caregiver begins with her entry into the hospice program and continues until her death. Care giving can be very frustrating at times as one never knows what to expect or when to expect it. The Diary of a Caregiver identifies many of the problems and frustrations associated with care of a Dementia patient. It also identifies different techniques and solutions to some of those problems. It should be of interest to anyone who is involved in care giving especially those who are just beginning.

    Diary Of A Deplorable!

    Price range: $3.99 through $12.99

I am a deplorable. That is what a left-leaning, law breaking democrat has chosen to call me because, as a Christian conservative, I supported a Presidential candidate with whom I agreed. Seventy-four million Americans voted the same way I did in 2020, so I guess we are all deplorables. I’m also a white male, and in today’s world, that is the only group that one can discriminate against with the blessing of the main-stream media. Another president decried the fact that we conservatives “cling to our guns and our God.” I choose to cling to both! Further, as a conservative, and a former university professor, I’ve been a victim of the lies, and false accusations of the woke cancel culture. For these reasons, I am now highly vested in this struggle against dishonesty, cancellation, and the destructive identity politics of wokeness. Finally, I believe in truth, and believing the truth today is virtually criminalized in our country. Here are some truths that, as a deplorable, I believe in.

There are only two genders, and only females can get pregnant.

History cannot be changed, and historical monuments should not be destroyed or dismantled at the whim of today’s left-leaning press.

Reparations won’t work, since almost everyone on the planet can make a case to receive them.

The Southern border of the US is witnessing an invasion, sanctioned and encouraged by democrats. Drugs and criminal thugs flow in without restraint creating a danger for all Americans.

Fatherlessness is destroying the Black community, and that problem may take American culture down with it.

Our current president suffers from dementia. He cannot function as leader of the free world.

The 2020 presidential election was a coup, orchestrated by democrats, a number of “get out the vote” non-profits, and 2000 mules stuffing ballot boxes. The 2024 election might be the same.

The current, highly dangerous world chaos, and two wars, have resulted in part because of a weak, demented US President.

These truths, and many others, are being attacked daily in the press, but truth generally stands strong in the face of lying politicians and infantile name-calling. Still, in 2024 these “woke” attacks on conservatives are getting much, much worse. If the lies and half-truths of leftists go unchallenged, they can eventually destroy our American experiment, so I felt I had to respond. In all honesty, you probably picked up this diary because you feel the same. You may have been attacked yourself by wokeness in some form or another, perhaps denied a job or a promotion because you were white, or male. In the view of leftist democrats, all Christian conservatives and all republicans are “deplorables” all 74 million of us. Given that these attacks do destroy lives sometimes, I’ve decided to respond, using a Christian perspective and humor (which disarms woke-leftists), to comment on today’s headlines. Thus, I’ll embrace the term, deplorable! The woke left is going to hate me and all conservative Christians anyway, so let’s let them. Herein, I’ll use truth, honesty, fact-based arguments, Jesus’ example of love, and a goodly dose of humor, to work to preserve the American experiment that I do so love. As usual, Jesus said it best!

“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” ( John 8: 32)

Dieu, La Chose Vile et Vous

    Price range: $3.99 through $17.99

    DINGS

    Price range: $3.99 through $19.99

DINGS tells of a mother’s struggle to support her son in the midst of a mysterious condition. Conner’s school believes that he is not ready for promotion into the third grade. His teacher recommends that he repeat the second grade. Conner’s dad is on a combat tour in 2006-7 Iraq; the adults in the boy’s life assume that stress and anxiety about his father serving in a combat theater have interfered with his school achievement. Meanwhile, Sandra is embittered; she is forced to deal with her son’s problem alone.

A psychologist identifies Conner’s anxieties and works to alleviate the child’s stress. But, the boy’s actual condition eludes the adults. He has unrecognized blank outs-his friends think that he acts “weird” sometimes.

Sandra’s husband returns from war, but all is not well. He has changed. She recognizes PTSD symptoms-Sam drinks more, snaps at the family and he has bad dreams-yet, he denies that anything is wrong. Sandra’s emotional stresses mount. She sees that her husband is incapable of emotionally supporting her as they struggle to understand their son’s difficulties; she is uncertain that she can keep her family together.

One night, Conner gets a high fever and he has a convulsion. At the local E.R., he has a brain CT scan and he gets a spinal tap. The doctor suggests to the parents that epilepsy is a possible cause of the convulsion. He refers Conner to a neurologist. Sandra interprets the mere mention of epilepsy as a personal affront. How could her son have such a stigmatizing and debilitating disease? He has never had any seizures before.

All of their lives change when they meet the neurologist. When epilepsy is diagnosed, Conner’s mother is devastated. She questions if her child can be considered normal now-could he ever really lead a normal life?

The reader will accompany this family as they travel their fascinating joint clinical and emotional journey to help their son. Sixty million people worldwide, including three million Americans, are afflicted with epilepsy.

DINGS is fascinating and educational reading for anyone, and especially those touched directly or indirectly by this condition.

For the readers’ convenience, a practical glossary of epilepsy terms and medical information is appended at the end of the book.

Disillusioned: A Journey from Certainty to Faith

    Price range: $3.99 through $12.99

Disillusioned is a memoir, a spiritual how-not-to, and a revelation of hope for experiencing God and living the message of Jesus in a bold new way. In this candid and moving story, former mega-church pastor Dan Cox shares how, after a lifetime of Christianity, he watched his long-held belief systems go up in smoke. And how, like burning a field for new growth, his disillusionment allowed him to grow spiritually in ways his old faith never allowed.

Cox had erected a perfect Christian framework around his life: Overseas mission work. Pastoring a fledgling church into a 6500-member church. Building a family. But even as he seemed to have all the answers, Cox became filled with doubts about his ministry and his marriage, and deeply depressed. Facing tremendous trials and feeling a disconnect between his theology and his experience, he prayed fervently. Yet God seemed absent. Eventually, all his certainties-about marriage, prayer, the Bible, and even salvation-lay in ashes at his feet. So he had to start over again. And on that seared ground, God and his grace met him, and he began to radically reconstruct his life-this time supported by true faith.

Disillusioned is an honest exploration of what happens when the answers you’ve grown up with-and doled out to everyone else-don’t make sense anymore. Around the world, there are millions like Dan who, dissatisfied with their Christian experience, are walking away from church. This book is for those on the edges. The faint. The fallen. The desperate. The doubters. Here is a hopeful story, offering comfort and a fresh vision for a renewed and authentic life of freedom in Christ.

    Divided We Fall

    Price range: $3.99 through $18.99

What will the American people do when tyranny and political correctness become the law of the land? Where are the George Washingtons and Benjamin Franklins that we need today? Liberal leftist educators deliberately ignore the tyranny of the increasingly socialist movement of government under the guise of political correctness. What freedoms are we willing to surrender? Who of our youth are willing to serve in the armed forces?

Politicians continue to consolidate political power in their hands under the banner of political correctness and socialism, of spreading the wealth for everyone. The tyranny of socialism is being whitewashed by liberal educators who ignore the loss of freedoms it requires. The armed forces are controlled by the politicians which can become tools of repression. Will individual patriots rise to protect the Constitution as written by the Founding Fathers? Where are the George Washingtons and Benjamin Franklins of today?

As the tyranny of political correctness grows to become the law of the land at the expense of individual thought, liberty, and justice, who will abide by it? Who will resist it? As politicians concentrate political power in their own hands, disarming the American people to deny them the means of physical resistance, where will the armed forces, allegedly under civilian control and commanded by the President, stand? What price are we, as individuals, willing to pay for our God-given freedoms?

    Do You Believe In Miracles?

    Price range: $3.99 through $14.99

The main source of the stories in this book comes from the experiences relayed to me by our customers visiting the Catholic store which I and my co-partner opened the last years of our careers in teaching. (in preparation for a transition to retirement)

A majority of my shoppers were Catholic, but there were many of other faiths including Protestants, Buddhists, Jews, Muslim and those who described themselves as atheists or agnostics.

Readers of this book may be moved by the expressions of faith by residents of our community. Reared as a Catholic I have had questions of faith. However, I have been deeply moved by the religious fervor and faith of those who have related their experiences to me. It has truly made a difference in my life. My husband, also reared in a Catholic family, has been more skeptical of miracles of those about which we have written. We shared an encounter together in Eloy, Arizona with the “Lady in the Bell Tower” which has had a significant impact on his life, This miraculous event has been witnessed by several hundred people of different faiths and nationalities.

The narratives of miraculous encounters in this book may have an everlasting effect on those who read it and may serve as a segue of common values to a sometimes politically and religiously divided people.

    Donald Trump Meets His Maker

    $11.99

This play offers an explanation, albeit fantastical, for President Trump’s inaction and near silence for 187 minutes during the Capitol siege on January 6th, 2021. The play begins with his speech at the Washington, D.C., rally on that fateful day. After he finishes the oration, as opposed to his instruction that he be driven to the Capitol, the Secret Service ferries him to the White House. Once there, President Trump holes up in the private dining room off the Oval Office, which serves as the setting for the remainder of the play. In the dining room, he sits rapt before a gigantic television screen, viewing his followers’ descent upon the Capitol. Suddenly, the Grim Reaper materializes in the dining room, and announces that the time has arrived for him to take President Trump away.

In the hope of dissuading the Grim Reaper from completing his mission, President Trump calls upon the assistance of Satan, whom the president hopes will listen to his appeal for clemency. As did the Grim Reaper, Satan materializes in a burst of explosions, smoke, etc. President Trump attempts to convince Satan to overrule the Grim Reaper by presenting a video playlist titled Trump’s Big Six, containing six of what he considers to be his political career’s highlights.

One of the play’s conceits is that only President Trump, and not his visitors, of which there were a few-for example, Ivanka Trump, Mark Meadows, and Pat Cipollone-can see the Grim Reaper and Satan: “Only he whom we come for can see us.”

Dream Team: Saints and Gentle Souls From the World of Sports

    Price range: $3.99 through $24.99

Former Marquette University basketball coach Al McGuire retired from coaching in 1977, just months after leading Marquette to the NCAA championship. When announcing his departure, McGuire explained, “There’s more to life than coaching guys in short pants.” Baseball great Roberto Clemente was even more to the point: “Anytime you have an opportunity to make a difference in this world and you don’t, then you are wasting your time on Earth.”

With a voice that exudes his love of sportsmanship and his faith in God’s plan, attorney Frederick J. Day presents the fascinating and uplifting true stories of athletes, coaches, and sportswriters who, like McGuire and Clemente, recognized that life matters well beyond what takes place on a court or field. Showcasing the goodwill of dozens of sports heroes from the last century, Day proves that athletes can serve as powerful inspiration for positive contributions to society.

Dream Team pays tribute to athletic pillars who understood, as did tennis player Arthur Ashe, that “the purest joy in life comes with trying to help others.”

    Driven By The Spirit

    Price range: $3.99 through $15.99

When we think of ourselves as children of God, we tend to imagine ourselves as small children, dependent and trusting. A better analogy would be to think of ourselves as adolescents. Anyone who has raised a child to adulthood can understand the dilemma of wanting our children to become independent, successful members of society, but realizing as they make their way in the world they will make mistakes. They will get hurt. God did not create us as robots programmed for total obedience. He knows that we will make poor choices as we grow. We will face trials and we will, at times, question His love for us. Just as the parent of an adolescent, God wants us to come to Him for advice, consolation and love. He wants us to remember all He has taught us, all He has done for us, and how much He loves us. He wants our love and devotion in spite of the hardships we face or successes we achieve. When I think about those who don’t believe they need God in their lives, it brings to mind the lonely widow who sits in her home day after day, hoping for the moment when her child will call or come to see her. Some never will. How sad is that!

    Duppy Conqueror

    Price range: $5.99 through $10.95

The title Duppy Conqueror should resonate with most Jamaicans. No, not because of the reggae song by the same name, but because it has been a title conferred upon a very tough person, a force of nature. The story is about a young man born in the mid nineteen sixties, confronted by gangs, the rude bous, and other more frightening focs of a paranormal nature. William’s strength is informed by his religious parents and the Bible; but are they enough to keep him safe and alive in the concrete jungles of Jamaica? The story draws upon the real-life experience of family and friends. This is a work of fiction; however, the impact of the Holy Spirit is no fiction.

In this science fiction novel, powerful neutron bombs devastate human life on earth, leaving the survivors to pick up the pieces.
