Alila Barreras was born in Central Macareño, province of Camagüey, Cuba in 1945. She studied Pathological Laboratory in Cuba in 1969. She arrived in the United States of America in the famous Mariel Exodus with her husband and two young daughters in 1980. She settled for two years in the state of New Jersey where she studied Cosmetology in 1982. She later moved with her family to California, receiving her American citizenship on December 4, 1988. She graduated in computing in 1995.

Attended a program at MT. San Antonio College called H.A.G.A.S.E., which means ‘Hispanics Achieving Great Ambitions, Satisfaction and Successes’ in 1996. Her passion is writing and she has already published several books. The first titled “WHAT AN NORTH AMERICAN CAN’T SAY IN HIS OWN LAND” (2001) and the English language version titled “What an American Can’t Say in His Own Land” (2007). The poetry titled “Dreams and Melancholies” English language version (2008).

Her first romantic novel titled: “La Mansión” (2012). “Los Relatos de Alila” in 2014 in digital form for Kindle. The novel of manners titled “Doña María” in 2018. DEMOCRATS PLEASE DON’T HURT ME. WE ARE THE PEOPLE 2024. Alila lives happily with her family in the state of California and is the grandmother of four beautiful granddaughters and one great-grandson. He is a cancer survivor. ​
