Leighton L. Smith now has a live author’s website. This website gives readers biographical information about the author as well as details on how and where to buy his books.

Leighton L. Smith is a senior systems engineer and ergonomist who has been writing for more than 40 years. He has authored over 1,500 technical publications ranging from by-laws and business plans to technical proposals, reports, safety plans, risk management plans, and long-range plans. In recent years, he embraced freelance writing and created the Ian Learns… children’s book series. In addition to his technical and children’s literature work, Leighton has penned several novels, including his latest release, “Too Close to Call: A Novel of Presidential Election Politics.”

“Too Close to Call” follows the story of William Buford Collins as he uncovers a web of deceit behind a surge in accidental deaths plaguing U.S. cities. Homicides are down, but accidental death rates are up and Buf Collins is determined to find out why. In his investigation, he helps an old friend whose husband died under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room. Despite city officials dismissing the death as accidental, evidence suggests foul play. When an FBI report brings the case to light, the president appoints Collins as a special prosecutor. With his influential father-in-law working behind the scenes, Buf Collins finds himself thrust into a high-stakes political battle where his very appointment disrupts the presidential election. As the courtroom drama unfolds on national TV, the president struggles to maintain control, upgrading charges from corruption to collusion and even to conspiracy all while the election draws ever closer.

Leighton’s signature as an author is that his novels all have four-word titles, with those four words appearing only once at the end of each novel. This distinctive twist adds a playful yet intriguing element to his storytelling.

Looking ahead, Leighton has several more titles on the way. Upcoming novels include All that Really Matters, a heartfelt family values story set in Superior, Wisconsin; More like a Wraith, a dark tale of inner demons and unexpected redemption; Root of All Evil, where a grand elder navigates a dangerous mix of military, criminal, and supernatural forces; you saved my life, about a brilliant microchemist caught in corporate intrigue and rescued by a caring old man; The Butler Did It, a mystery romp that puts the classic whodunnit on its head; and Ian learn to save time, a charming children’s story about Ian the Mouse learning the true meaning of a timeless proverb.

On the non-fiction side, Leighton offers How to Play Smart Baseball—a guide packed with techniques and fun anecdotes for playing the game effectively; It always was yours, a semi-biographical tribute to his father’s revolutionary work in the printing industry; Very Easy Guidelines About Nutrition, an illustrated guide for healthy, plant-based eating; and two in the bush, a reflective story about how meeting 30 different people transformed a lifelong perspective.
