ARPress is honored to partner with Publishers Weekly Magazine in featuring and marketing outstanding published works by dedicated and passionate authors. Every year, millions of books are released, but only a select few are featured by Publishers Weekly—a credible and globally trusted magazine in the publishing industry.
Publishers Weekly (PW) is a long-standing and highly influential trade magazine, often referred to as the “Bible of the book business.” Established in 1872, it serves a professional audience that includes publishers, editors, agents, librarians, booksellers, and authors. The magazine is best known for its pre-publication book reviews, which are concise, authoritative, and carry significant weight within the industry. A starred review from Publishers Weekly is regarded as a mark of excellence and can greatly influence a book’s success in terms of bookstore orders, library acquisitions, and media attention.
In addition to reviews, the magazine covers industry news, emerging trends, rights deals, and weekly bestseller lists. It also publishes special issues spotlighting specific genres, seasonal releases, and international markets. While based in the United States, Publishers Weekly has a global reach—reporting on major international book fairs and developments across the worldwide publishing landscape. Its content serves as a valuable resource not only for industry professionals but also for readers and writers seeking insight into the inner workings of the literary world.
The book has made waves by reaching readers in both English and Spanish. The dual-edition release shows just how much care and passion have gone into making sure the story connects with as many people as possible. It’s a clear sign that the work is important and that its messages are intended for a diverse audience.
This book takes a no-nonsense look at the state of our government and calls for a return to truth, justice, and peace. It’s written in a way that feels like a heart-to-heart conversation with a friend who isn’t afraid to speak up. The tone is direct and relatable, perfect if you want a story that’s both thought-provoking and easy to connect with.
Alila Barreras writes like she lives—direct, honest, and with a spirit that’s impossible to ignore. Born in Central Macareño, province of Camagüey, Cuba in 1945, she experienced firsthand the twists and turns of life. After studying in Cuba and making the famous Mariel Exodus in 1980 with her husband and two daughters, Alila settled in the U.S. and even spent a couple of years in New Jersey learning cosmetology before making California her home. She earned her American citizenship in 1988, graduated in computing in 1995, and then attended MT. San Antonio College for a program called H.AGASE (Hispanics Achieving Great Ambitions, Satisfactions and Successes) in 1996.
Alila’s passion for writing shines through in every book she publishes. She kicked off her writing journey with titles like “WHAT AN NORTH AMERICAN CAN’T SAY IN HIS OWN LAND” (2001) and its English counterpart in 2007. Over the years, she’s penned poetry, romantic novels like “La Mansión” (2012), digital stories such as “Los Relatos de Alila” (2014), and a novel of manners, “Doña María” (2018). And yes, there’s the politically charged gem, DEMOCRATS PLEASE DON’T HURT ME WE ARE THE PEOPLE 2024, that proves she’s not shy about expressing her views. Today, Alila lives happily in California with her family and is a proud grandmother to four granddaughters and one great-grandson. Plus, she’s a cancer survivor, which only adds to her inspiring story of resilience.
