“I Saw It All: Grandma’s Account of the Big Bad Wolf Story” offers a refreshing twist on the classic “Three Little Pigs” story by narrating it from the perspective of Grandma, an often-overlooked character in fairy tales. The story gives a humorous and slightly skeptical view of events involving the Big Bad Wolf and the Three Little Pigs. Grandma is portrayed as a wise and witty character who questions the truth behind the typical telling, suggesting that the wolf might not have been as “bad” as he’s often made out to be.

There are many versions of the story of the three pigs. In this story, the big bad wolf’s grandma witnessed what happened in her neighborhood. As a critical witness for the defense, Mrs. Wolf tells the court what she saw that day as she sat on her front porch and tries to convince the jury that her testimony is true. Grandma makes sure that everyone will know her grandson was innocent and the three pig’s houses were poorly built.

This story targets upper elementary and middle school-age students. In this book, the author uses various forms of literary devices such as alliteration, similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, and more. This is a great book to discuss points of view especially when comparing it to other stories of the three pigs. Readers will be drawn into this story by Grandma’s wit and charm.
