“Holy Spirit Led Poetry” by Dr. Don Carson presents a collection of poems originally composed in 2006, meant to accompany a sermon series titled “God’s Character.” The poems serve dual purposes: they provide outlines for sermons and act as inspirational pieces for individual spiritual growth. This collection emphasizes understanding God’s character and the responses of believers, aiming to deepen the personal relationship between the individual and God.

Dr. Don Carson felt a call to the ministry as a child. He went to Emmanuel College knowing that he was called to preach and to fulfill the desire to become a minister. After earning a B.S. in religion, he was licensed by Pentecostal Holiness Church in June 1985. Rev. Don went on to earn an M.Min from Christian Leadership University in 2012 and a D.Min in 2013 from Christian Leadership Seminary. He was the Asst. Pastor of Word of Grace from its inception in 1987. The church had a webpage that he edited on a website and Pastor Don also worked with another assistant pastor to do weekly editing of a TV show for a while which was called Nothing but Grace.

In 2006, after the death of its founder and head Pastor, John Hogan, Dr Carson became the Pastor of Word of Grace Fellowship. He married Maricel Cuyat in June of 2016 and also became the stepfather to Dory Cuyat. Dr. Carson started another church in the Philippines in June of 2022 with his wife Maricel which is also called Word of Grace Fellowship.

The poems in this book were originally written in 2006 in connection with a sermon series called God’s Character and they were used as an outline for the sermons presented during the series. The poems can not only be used as sermon outlines but also as an inspiration for the individual reader in their growth with the Lord.

They are used to help one understand the depth of God’s Character and our response to him so we can grow in our relationship with Him. It is my desire that you will not only be blessed by this book but also that this book will be able to help the reader grow as Holy Spirit Led Poetry leads you into a new dimension of who God is to you so you can know Him today in a new and living way, so the Holy Spirit can invade your life with His presence!

The poems in “Holy Spirit Led Poetry” are intended not only for personal reflection but also to facilitate deeper understanding during sermon presentations. They provide outlines to help the congregation grasp the central themes linked to God’s character. Carson hopes that readers will be blessed by the poems and inspired to grow spiritually. Through these literary works, he invites individuals into a transformative relationship with God, exploring how believers can know Him more intimately.

The poems delve into various themes surrounding God’s character, aiming to articulate the depth of His nature and the appropriate responses of His followers. Important concepts include love, grace, redemption, and holiness. Each poem challenges the reader to reflect on their spiritual journey and to engage more deeply with their faith, illustrating how one’s understanding of God can impact personal spirituality.
