The 76th Frankfurter Buchmesse (16–20 October 2024) puts a spotlight on current topics in the world of international publishing and on today’s socio-political issues. At the same time, it is expanding the venues that allow readers and authors to interact, with an emphasis this year on the growing desire younger readers have to engage with literature. The book fair’s opening ceremony took place on 15 October 2024 under the motto “FBM24 is Read!ng—Read. The mission of Author Reputation Press is to foster literary connections between authors and readers. In line with this, ARP displayed several of its remarkable books at the largest book trade fair in the world. The book gallery was even more interesting because of the large variety of genres in the exhibition.

In “Healing My Soul On Purpose,” Anderson shares her insights and experiences that stem from her military background, exploring the emotional and psychological struggles faced by veterans. The book aims to provide guidance and encouragement to those dealing with similar issues, emphasizing the importance of purpose and healing in overcoming life’s difficulties.

The core question addressed in “HEALING MY SOUL ON PURPOSE: A Veterans Guide to Suicide Intervention” is: “How to motivate religious leaders to connect with the Veterans in Our Pew and connect the Veterans to their VA Benefits, particularly those who struggle silently with self-destructive behavior?”

Pamelajune Anderson is specifically concerned with North American Faith-based leaders’ understanding of the painful circumstances and moral injuries that could cause a Veteran to commit suicide and how the church can help reduce the number of suicides among Veterans.

Local Church pastors could respond to the core question by becoming conscious and implementing faith-based solutions. For example, offering yoga classes, inviting the State or Federal VA to speak to their Veterans about their benefits, learning and teaching practical meditation skills, and fully embracing inclusive theology, i.e., God’s unconditional love (Agape), all of which opens and expands dialogue and the communion/community table to others.

The author meets with Veterans in their church setting and discusses with them and their pastor about becoming a Veteran Friendly Church and creating a Veterans’ Support Group led by Veterans. The positive impact is without measure. Together, we build a Veterans’ camaraderie within their congregation and offer Stigma Busters: A Grief and Bereavement Café, Salute Your Soul: Veterans Self Care Café, Salute Your Soul: Suicide Intervention Café, Grief and Bereavement Support Group Café, and one-on-one Grief and Bereavement Counseling.

This book is one result of Dr. Banks-Anderson’s research. It provides a resource to equip the church, laypersons, clergy, chaplains, faith-based leaders, and families to reduce deaths by suicide through community intervention. It offers intervention skills for Veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and mental challenges, including suicide ideation. She interviewed 25 Veterans and three civilian families wherein someone died by suicide and provided participating Veterans with a survey.

The themes discussed in the book include 1) healing and recovery in which Anderson’s narrative encapsulates the journey of healing from trauma and the importance of addressing mental health challenges; 2) veteran experiences in which the book specifically highlights the unique challenges that veterans face, such as PTSD and the transition to civilian life; and 3) suicide prevention, which a significant focus is placed on raising awareness about suicide prevention strategies and the importance of seeking help.

Through personal anecdotes and reflective insights, Pamelajune Anderson aims to inspire and guide readers toward healing and finding their purpose in life.
