“The gasps and screams and horrific expressions on the faces of my dear family members added volumes to the heartbreak I could barely endure. Marsha helped me to explain the story of David asking for a ride this morning, only to turn on her and attack her with his knife. I told them how her little Dodge Colt crashed into some parked cars, which led bystanders and initially the police into believing it was an accident. And I told them how the first person on the scene ran to her car to help, only to find David hovering over Becky as she lay bleeding profusely and gasping for air.”

Author Reputation Press is honored to publish “Being With Becky” by Lisa Binkowski. This book is now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and the ARPress website.
“Being with Becky” by Lisa Binkowski is a poignant memoir that tells the deeply personal story of the author’s relationship with her sister, Rebecca (“Becky”). Becky was a vibrant, kindhearted social worker whose life was tragically cut short in 1993 by David Stappenbeck, a man suffering from mental health issues.
Lisa Binkowski grew up in Toledo, Ohio, the second of nine children. With her dad working two jobs and Mom working part-time, she spent much of her childhood caring for the younger siblings at home. She developed close bonds with all of them, in particular, with Becky, the youngest. They were the best of friends until Becky’s tragic death. In the aftermath, she poured herself into projects intending to honor her sister and keep her memory alive, including writing Being with Becky.
Although she was extremely shy and introverted throughout much of her life, she thrives on sharing her story and her music with others.
The book highlights the loving bond between Lisa and Becky, who were part of a large, close-knit Catholic family in Northwest Ohio. Lisa shares heartfelt memories of their shared experiences, from family gatherings to joyful ski trips. After Becky’s death, the narrative shifts to explore the emotional devastation it caused and Lisa’s struggle to make sense of the senseless.
The story emphasizes the enduring strength of love and remembrance even in the face of devastating loss. It also underscores the importance of cherishing relationships and turning personal tragedy into a force for positive change. Lisa’s journey illustrates how honoring the memory of a loved one can lead to healing and inspire efforts to prevent similar tragedies.
