Roger Niez was born in Hawthorne, California in 1960. He was raised in Orange County with two older brothers by Polish-Catholic parents. After graduating high school as an all-American in football and wrestling, Roger started studying martial arts while attending college. In 1984, he saw an ad by a private-investigation company for bodyguards needed for the 1984 Olympics.
He started their training program and began learning professional driving, countersurveillance, and executive protection. After several assignments, Roger moved to Los Angeles and opened a small office in a client’s medical building. The journey he would go on over the next four years would not only amaze Roger, but also present him with experiences that wouldn’t be acknowledged until nearly forty years later.
Roger is an author, businessman, and master martial artist who left Hollywood to develop a commercial real estate career. He survived three divorces, is happily married, and has two children. Roger is honored to share his early life stories as a bodyguard and limo driver in Los Angeles during the 1980s.
“You are not joining a group of fans but a family, Peace, Joy, and Love.”
“An Affair with Hollywood” is the story of a bodyguard and limo driver working during the height of male chauvinism in the historic 1980s. This book recalls various escapades and sex scandals that have gone unsurfaced for more than forty years, casting light upon the exploitation and subculture in the film industry at that time.
The author, as a young bodyguard and limousine driver, had surreal firsthand encounters that were viewed as executing a job. His personal relationships with clients, and his interactions with wishful young actresses presented him with a medium into the party scene…and what was truly going on with that sexually charged era.
Despite the context and graphic recollection of the story, the actions and dialogues depicted in this book are in no manner endorsed or approved.
In this narrative, the author masterfully intermingles humor and past experiences, showcasing the allure of ambition while exposing the often-painful realities that come with it. With sharp wit and poignant insight, “An Affair with Hollywood” is a compelling read for anyone intrigued by the intricate connection between dignity and the unwavering pursuit of ambitions in the entertainment industry.
The book highlights the paradoxical nature of Hollywood being known as a destination spot for people to fulfill their lives when, in fact, this narrative unfortunately reveals that people are capable of committing vile acts, all in the name of their ambition.
Roger is honored to share his early life stories as a bodyguard and limo driver in Los Angeles during the 1980s. He has great hopes that this book conveys a greater understanding of the historical era in Hollywood and teaches life lessons he learned from experience.
