ARPress is honored to partner with Publishers Weekly magazine in featuring and marketing outstanding published works by dedicated and passionate authors. Every year, millions of books are released, but only a select few are featured by Publishers Weekly—a credible and globally trusted magazine in the publishing industry.

Publishers Weekly (PW) is a long-standing and highly influential trade magazine, often referred to as the “Bible of the book business.” Established in 1872, it serves a professional audience that includes publishers, editors, agents, librarians, booksellers, and authors. The magazine is best known for its pre-publication book reviews, which are concise, authoritative, and carry significant weight within the industry. A starred review from Publishers Weekly is regarded as a mark of excellence and can greatly influence a book’s success in terms of bookstore orders, library acquisitions, and media attention.

In addition to reviews, the magazine covers industry news, emerging trends, rights deals, and weekly bestseller lists. It also publishes special issues spotlighting specific genres, seasonal releases, and international markets. While based in the United States, Publishers Weekly has a global reach—reporting on major international book fairs and developments across the worldwide publishing landscape. Its content serves as a valuable resource not only for industry professionals but also for readers and writers seeking insight into the inner workings of the literary world.

Where was Jesus, and what was He doing during the many centuries of Old Testament history? If Jesus only had personal contact with people after His birth in Bethlehem, where was He during the hundreds of years when the Jewish people lived, suffered, and struggled, and were in need of direction and support? If He really cares for people, is it rational to believe that, during that time, He was not engaged at all in human history?

Jesus Is There: Discovering Jesus at Work in the Old Testament by Carl B. Dodrill, Ph.D., investigates Jesus’ activities during Old Testament times, particularly after His role in creation. The book explores the idea that Jesus was actively involved in interacting with and caring for people during the Old Testament period. It argues that Jesus was not absent but deeply engaged in guiding and shaping events in the Old Testament.

Using a fresh and little-explored empirically-based approach and resources, including the Septuagint, three keys are identified which, in the New Testament, reliably distinguish the person and work of Christ from that of God the Father. Guidelines for the use of these keys are established, and they are then applied to 25 selected passages in the Old Testament where the divine is definitely at work.

When this is done, the results clearly show that Jesus is there, at work in the Old Testament, doing far more with people than most of us ever thought. You are invited to examine these in-depth studies with the prospect that you may arrive at a truly broadened understanding of Jesus Christ.

Carl B. Dodrill, Ph.D., received his B.A. in psychology from Westmont College in 1965 and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Purdue University in 1970. After teaching at Westmont and becoming Chair of the Psychology Department, he spent more than 30 years on the faculty of the University of Washington, where he is now Professor Emeritus. He has taught the Bible for more than 40 years to college students and adults, frequently with an emphasis on Old Testament studies.
