Emerson Custis
The influence of my grandfather’s faith was profound, and his dedication to raising us in the ways of the Lord left an indelible mark on our lives. We all held a deep love and reverence for him, and I cherished him for the course he set for my own life. He instilled in us a strong foundation in the Word of God, teaching us the values of love, compassion, and righteousness. Witnessing the upheaval around me, I became acutely aware of the need for positive change and the power of collective action. It fueled a fire within me to become an agent of transformation, to work towards a society where every individual is treated with dignity and fairness. In response to these trials, I have found solace and expression in the realm of poetry. Poetry allows for the transformation of experiences into art, providing a means to convey emotions, insights, and reflections. It becomes a medium through which one can render a response and explore the intricacies of the human condition. Poetry, with its lyrical and evocative nature, lends itself well to capturing the essence of one’s experiences and the depths of their understanding. It becomes a vehicle through which they can explore and communicate the intricacies of life, love, struggle, and the human condition
